On Saturday, Robert Benedict from Unicorn Solar returned from a 9-day trip to Indonesia to speak with several module manufacturers.
What Robert learned about Indonesia is that the government is working with the Trump administration to find a solution to the increased tariff imposed on their country. Their administration stated they immediately communicated with the Trump administration to solve the issue.
This response comes from their desire to continue producing solar modules and batteries in their country. Robert flew into Jakarta, where his partner Faustin met him at the airport and took him to his hotel. The next morning, they went to the factory, where Robert was impressed that it was set up to produce replacement modules from wattages of 220W to 550W. Additionally, they had the connections to purchase all components to obtain UL certification of the replacement modules. The only requirement is a container or greater purchase.
The following day, Robert flew to Batam, where he met with seven other factories. These were a combination of module and cell factories. Each factory was outfitted with new equipment ranging from three to six gigawatts. One crucial fact is that these factories also used cells from Indonesia to prevent them from paying high tariffs on cells from China.
Because Batam is an Island, the ability to move goods from the factory to the port was immensely reduced compared to other Southeast Asian factories. When purchasing from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia, the transport times are increased by several hours to a day or more.
What you can do it you require modules
Unicorn Solar invites you to contact us to determine how low your module pricing can be for Tier 1 modules and batteries. They plan to visit a few other countries now involved with setting up factories. These additional countries have only the 10% tariff that was imposed on all countries worldwide. Unicorn Solar understands the value of solar developers, investors, EPCs, and installers getting modules at pricing that keeps their projects alive with healthy returns.
Video clips of the factory visit.
If you are interested in seeing video clips and photographs of some of the factories, Unicorn Solar will upload them to their website within a few days. Please contact us directly, and we will be happy to share them with you.
Unicorn Solar is attending Clean Power.
Please note that if you are attending Clean Power in AZ next month, please visit us at booth 1720. We would love to meet you and help you save money. Robert and Kevin have 20 and 17 years of experience in the solar industry, and we should be able to assist you with any needs, wants, or requirements you have.
