Union Congregational Church Announcement

BISHOP MALKHAZ SONGULASHVILI

Guest Preacher At Union Cong

Sunday, February 8th, 10am worship

Bishop Malkhaz Songulashvili serves Peace Cathedral in Tbilisi, Georgia. A tireless advocate for peace and interfaith communion, Bishop Malkhaz has supported marginalized communities from Georgia and beyond throughout his decades-long career. As an internationally renowned scholar, the leader of the Peace Project, and the recipient of dozens of awards, Bishop Malkhaz remains a global champion for peace and justice.

In response to rising Islamophobia, antisemitism, and xenophobia, Songulashvili introduced the Peace Project, which brought into being the Peace Mosque, Peace Synagogue, and Peace Cathedral, all under the same roof. The project is meant to demonstrate, in a tangible way, a deep commitment to interfaith peace. The Peace Project was completed and inaugurated in 2022-2023 in partnership with the “House of One (Berlin) and numerous Jewish, Muslim, and Christian friends of the Peace Cathedral.” Thus, the Peace Cathedral became a unique place of religious peace and inclusion.

We will celebrate communion on Sunday, February 8th with the liturgy used at Peace Cathedral (note that we are moving communion from Feb 1 to Feb 8 for this month).
