Student Services Update
Welcome to the beginning of a fabulous new year! We are starting off the year focusing on getting all students scheduled and in the correct classes.

As some of you have noticed, students are able to view their schedule in Skyward. If your schedule is not available, please be patient as schedules roll out. We are still making changes to schedules and leveling classes.

Schedule change request forms will be available at Meet the Teacher, but requests are not guaranteed and will be based on availability. Schedules will NOT be changed based upon teacher preferences and/or sequential order of classes.

Some students are placed into intensive classes and/or learning strategies based on FSA scores or IEP requirements. In addition, all students will be placed in a PE class unless the student has a 2021-22 PE waiver request on file. PE Waivers will be available during Meet the Teacher.

Parent teacher conferences are available to be scheduled, virtually or in person, with teachers on Tuesday or Thursday mornings at 8:35 am. Please feel free to reach out to any member of the Student Services Team with any questions or concerns that you may have.

Here are a few easy ways to include reading as part of your every day during the summer, even when you are on the go! Sora is a new option for students and teachers to access free eBooks and audiobooks and includes over 100 titles in Spanish. The Sora app is available for free on iTunes and the app store. You can also find it in the Library Research Tools folder on LaunchPad.

Face Mask Policy and FAQs
In light of CDC guidance and Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings announcement this afternoon urging all Orange County residents to wear face masks indoors, the district is also strongly urging everyone to wear a face mask when indoors including attendance during Meet the Teacher and other Back to School events.

We know many of you still have back to school questions surrounding COVID and safety so we have created a frequently asked questions webpage that addresses a lot of your concerns. Just look for the Back to School FAQs graphic on the front page of the district website ocps.net. If any of your questions are not answered you can email [email protected].

* Please know, the School Board and the Superintendent continue to monitor the situation closely as the first day of school approaches Tuesday, August 10.

Monday's Motivational Moment!
TALENT IS OVERRATED

Dr. Benjamin Bloom of the University of Chicago (of Bloom's Taxonomy fame) conducted a five-year study of leading artists, athletes, and scholars. It consisted of anonymous interviews with the top twenty performers in various fields, including pianists, Olympic swimmers, tennis players, sculptors, mathematicians, and neurologists. That information was supplemented by additional interviews with those people's families and teachers. Bloom and his team of researchers sought to find clues to how these high achievers developed. What they discovered was that drive and determination – not talent – led to their success.
