Dates To Watch For
Curriculum Highlight
A class meets to learn about nutrition. The lesson included proper portions, balanced diet and of course eating. The students learned about the basic food groups; fruits and vegetables, dairy and healthy fats, proteins, carbohydrates. These are valuable lessons for a healthy lifestyle.
Principal Appreciation Day
UPMS students share their appreciation for Ms. Antonio on Principal Appreciation Day. Ms. Antonio made a commitment at the beginning of the year to know each student by name. She has also been involved with student activities and events. Both students and staffulty appreciate all of the work Ms. Antonio has done in her first year as UPMS principal.
Family Skate Night
Union Park Middle School had their first Family Skate Night at Astro Skate on May 6. It was a success! Families and friends enjoyed skating on the rink privately before it was opened to the public. Food, fun, and family were enjoyed by all.
Teacher of the Month
Eighth grade Science teacher, Mr. Williams, earned May Teacher of the Month! The students appreciate Mr. William’s joy of science he brings to the class. His joy helps to bring fun to the lessons and classroom.
Athletic Banquet
Union Park Middle School recently held the end of year athletic banquet. It was an opportunity to recognize the efforts of our athletes success, efforts and representation of UPMS. Also, a big Thank You was given to our coaches and athletic director for all of their efforts. UPMS appreciates their leadership and commitment to our student-athletes.
8th Grade Dance
Union Park Middle School hosted a year-end dance for your 8th grade class. It was an opportunity for our 8th graders to dress-up and dance and eat with friends. We all would like to thank Ms. Avelino and her group of volunteers who helped plan and organize a great evening for our 8th grade class.
S.T.E.M.
Mr. Hatfield’s Project Lead The Way class learns technology that includes building robots. Students learn to construct and operate robots during the year. Here are 3 students displaying their creation. Mr. Hatfield’s PLTW class is one of the elective classes offered by UPMS emphasizing S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Special Recognition
Union Park Middle School Welcomed Mr. Jose Martinez, Area Superintendent for the East Learning Community, and James Leslie, Executive Director for the East Learning Community. They were on campus to meet and congratulate two technology (DIT) students, Tyler Chopin and Jaheim Higgins, for passing a rigorous tech. certification. Ms. Antonio, Tyler, and Jaheim appreciate our guest’s time and visit to UPMS.
Eighth Grade Awards Ceremony
The eighth graders ended the school year with an awards ceremony. Students received recognition for excellence in each of the eighth grade classes. Parents attended and packed the room to watch their children finish their middle school experience. Mr. Ott, Principal of University High School, addressed the audience and welcomed the 8th graders to their new school.
Closing Images of the School Year . . .
Sixth and seventh graders enjoyed ending the last day of outside with Italian Ice and spinning the wheel for prizes. Teachers and the administration enjoyed the icy treats too!

Please know that all of the summer nutrition sites in schools are located on the FNS Web Site page (link below). OCPS Food and Nutrition Services will also be serving lunch at the following Public Libraries: Chickasaw, Fairview Shores, Hiawassee, North Orange Branch, South Creek, and South Trail. Addresses are on the link. Parents may find a nutrition site close to them by calling 211.
