Touch Down in College Town:
United Airlines Adds Nonstop Point-to-Point Flights and More Seats for College Football Season
Nonstop BTR to Austin Flights added
for LSU verses University of Texas Game
United Airlines unveiled its 2019 college football flying schedule adding around 10,000 seats between its hubs and popular game destinations, and for the first time, United has added several point-to-point flights enabling fans to fly nonstop from one college town to another. Tickets are now available for purchase.

As part of the football flying schedule, United Airlines has added nonstop BTR flights for the weekend of the LSU verses the University of Texas game (September 7). The nonstop flights will operate BTR to Austin (AUS) on Friday, September 6 with a return on Sunday, September 8 using a Boeing 737-900 aircraft. Tickets may be purchased at www.united.com , or through your local or online travel agency. United will also add more seating capacity from BTR on select game weekends for flights to its Houston (IAH) hub.

“Our playbook this year will make it easier than ever for fans, alumni and students to cheer on their teams in other college towns across the country,” said Ankit Gupta, United’s vice president of Domestic Network Planning. “It’s exciting for football fans and even more exciting for United to be able to operate nonstop flights between these communities for the very first
time.”

“We hope fans traveling to LSU away games or coming in for home games will support the additional service offered by United, and especially the nonstop Austin flights for the Texas game,” said Mike Edwards, Director of Aviation, at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport.

Marketing, Public Relations, and Air Service Development Manager, Jim Caldwell, noted that the flights provide good opportunities for weekend getaways even if not attending the games. “Austin is a great weekend vacation destination,” said Caldwell. “For those that cannot make it to the game, consider taking advantage of the nonstop flights to enjoy a weekend in Austin.”
BReady Day (formerly Red Stick Ready Day)
to be held at Baton Rouge Metro Airport
To better prepare the citizens we serve, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome’s office, in coordination with MOHSEP, will host BReady Day at BTR to ensure the residents of our community are Red Stick Ready for the potential threat of all hazards.

Local citizens are encouraged to take advantage of this annual event to learn public safety tips provided by local, state, and federal emergency response stakeholders. Agency booths will be set up for the public to visit and receive essential readiness handouts, information, and equipment tours.

BReady Day, previously known as Red Stick Ready Day, will provide a unique opportunity for citizens to interact with first responders prior to an emergency event. Together we can demonstrate our capabilities to build a safer, more disaster resilient community.
