"Celebrating God's Presence, Serving All People"
United Church News August 16th, 2019
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Are you in the middle of something? The middle of a journey... The middle of a challenge... The middle of a prayer that has not been answered... Indeed, Life's "middles" are complicated. But it is often the case that God meets us in the middle of a journey to encourage and strengthen us in powerful ways. On Sunday, I will continue my sermon series on the parables by focusing our attention on the parable of the Widow and the Unjust Judge. The widow in the parable was in the middle of something. When she was willing to persevere, God met her in the middle of it all. So, too, will God meet us there...

See you Sunday!

Pastor Mark

Congratulations Endowment Committee
In recent weeks, United Church's Endowment Fund experienced a true milestone in surpassing one million dollars for the first time in the church's history! Since 1997, United Church's Endowment Committee has been faithful stewards of the church's endowment. Proceeds from the endowment are deposited annually into United Church's Rush Fund that has blessed so many in the congregation who have been in need. All of us would like to especially thank Bob Marks (Endowment Committee Chair) for his visionary leadership over the years that has enabled this fund to grow in prosperous ways. If you're interested in making a gift to United Church's Endowment Fund or in making United Church's Endowment Fund part of your estate giving, contact Pastor Mark Williams in the church office for more information.

Five Tips to Cope with Caregiver Anger
An article from the Home Instead website states,

"When family caregivers open up about their emotions, they are quick to talk about their feelings of stress, sadness and depression. But they don’t often talk about the anger, impatience and even rage that can flare in an instant. Who hasn’t snapped once or twice during their caregiving journey and then relentlessly beat themselves up for it later? If you have ever felt like clenching your fists and screaming in frustration, you are not alone. Most caregivers probably experience these strong emotions from time to time. The key lies in coping with them."

Bargain Basket Update
On Wednesday, The Bargain Basket was joined by the Holy Temple Missionary Baptist Church's Elderly Services Program for a morning of shopping. The group pulled up in a big bus after road tripping from Opa-locka and started the rainy day shopping in our store. After their time with us they went to lunch at The Snook Inn and then headed to Miromar Outlets. They were a fun-loving group and we loved hosting them during their outing!
