"Celebrating God's Presence, Serving All People"
United Church News February 1st, 2019
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

So often when we serve others or when we take care of family members, we make believe that our service is a one-way street. As the "wealthy" or "healthy" ones, we are surely in position to minister to those who are weaker, poorer, or unhealthy. In teaching the lesson of the widow's offering, Jesus reminds us that this is not always the case. Our service is a two-way street. When we serve the least and the last and witness the gifts that they offer, they are in position to minister to us in ways that are truly powerful. I look forward to saying more about this in my message on Sunday entitled "The Widow's Witness" from Luke 21: 1-4.

Tonight, we look forward to the Naples Philharmonic being with us at 7:30PM. On Sunday morning in the narthex, our Women's Fellowship will be hosting a bake sale with proceeds to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Complete your Super Bowl spread by making a purchase all the while helping a great cause!

Worship on Sunday will be at 8:15AM and 10:00AM in the sanctuary. Holy Communion will be served at both services. Rev. Lisa Lefkow will take a brief moment during both services to update us on Collier County Habitat initiatives. I look forward to being with all of you in worship on Sunday!

In Christ,

Pastor Mark

On Thursday, February 21st,  Mark Beland, of AVOW Hospice, will be with us to instruct us on the document, The FIVE WISHES.
This is an amazing seminar for all people over 18 years of age. This court-ready document will greatly help families, Pastor Mark and our staff with end of life care and funeral preparations. This document should be in place by all adults, should any of us become unable physically or mentally unable to communicate our wishes by a tragedy or illness. It is much more detailed than a living will and should be be attached to primary care doctors patient file and family records. It costs us nothing and you will have a court ready document when you leave.

I have held this seminar 10 times in the last 7 years. For more information click on the button to the right or contact me with any questions.

United Church kicked off Habitat Month this past Sunday with a reminder to everyone to pick up a copy of this week’s Marco Eagle or Friday’s edition of the Naples Daily News. Look for Habitat’s GIVE TO THE MAX insert. You’ll see that United Church is again leading the Collier County Faith community by sponsoring this countywide fundraiser. United Church has pledged to raise $100,000 during February to help Habitat attract more new donors. To paraphrase Pastor Mark, United Church has chosen a BHAG. That’s a Big Hairy Audacious Goal. It’s a goal worthy of this congregation and when achieved will be matched $ for $ making $ 200,000 available, enough to fund four more Habitat homes this year.

United Church will begin receiving your gifts this Sunday Feb. 3rd as Habitat’s CEO Rev, Lisa Lefkow joins us in worship. Those desiring to make gifts of appreciated stock or transfers from IRAs and donor advised funds please call or stop by the church office and speak to Stephen Tepper. Gifts by check should be made payable to UCMI with Habitat written on the memo line.

Last Sunday Laura Bautista joined us in worship and shared her experience of growing up in a United Church Habitat home. Each time we build another Habitat home we are lifting up another deserving family, enabling parents and children to manifest their God-given potential. Please be generous, bring your gifts this Sunday and......
