"Celebrating God's Presence, Serving All People"
United Church News January 18th, 2019
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On the Sunday following Hurricane Irma, we had no electricity in worship. We did, however, have the power of the Holy Spirit. I preached a sermon entitled "Built on a Rock . " Here's an excerpt from that sermon preached on September 17th 2017:

"Irma took our shingles. She took our trees. She took our pool screens. She took our electricity. She took our insulation. She took our street signs. And yes, Irma even took our steeple. But there was one thing Irma did not take--God's people. Why? Because God's people stood firm on the rock-solid foundation of Jesus Christ. And it is that foundation that will continue to give us strength as we persevere in the days ahead."

When our new steeple arrived on the church campus last Thursday, I remembered preaching these words with confidence that God would help us rebuild our lives, our homes, and yes, our church. Our new steeple is a reminder that God  can  make all things new. Not just with buildings and repairs, but with us and with our lives.

I look forward to celebrating United Church's new steeple at a special Steeple Dedication Ceremony at the conclusion of worship on Sunday, February 10th at 10AM. Following the Steeple Dedication Ceremony, United Church's Social Events Committee will be hosting a delicious brunch for all! Put this date on your calendar today.

See you Sunday at 8:15AM and 10AM!

In Christ,

Pastor Mark

What a great turn out for this passed Wednesday's speaker event with Thomas Eastwood, a retired Director of the IRS Michigan District where he managed over 1500 employees and all IRS activities including criminal investigation, audit, collection, taxpayer service, and administration. He previously served as IRS Director in Milwaukee, Louisville, and Fargo, Dean of the IRS School of Professional Development in Washington, and Assistant Director in Manhattan and Indianapolis. He was a member of the Senior Executive Service.

The final week is here for our Speaker Series be sure not to miss this coming Wednesday, J anuary 23rd, with discussion on Presidential Assassinations.
