"Celebrating God's Presence, Serving All People"
United Church News June 7th, 2019
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

What an incredible week of Vacation Bible School we have enjoyed with our awesome children! A thank you to all our volunteers and staff for their dedication and enthusiasm.  All in the congregation are invited tonight at 7PM for an ice cream social in Disseler Hall as we conclude an amazing week of learning and fun!  We look forward to recapping VBS and sharing many pictures from the week in the e news next Friday--so stay tuned!

On Sunday at 10AM, we will celebrate Pentecost in worship. Scripture reminds us that the Holy Spirit imparts to each one of us a set of unique spiritual gifts. Jesus encourages us to invest these spiritual gifts so that God can multiple our efforts. I'll say more about this in a sermon on Sunday entitled "Risk Opening the Gift" from the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25.

Summer Book Discussions
Pastor Kathy Sprague's 5-week book discussion on Max Lucado's Anxious for Nothing, continues this Tuesday, June 11th at 10am in the Sunset Conference Room. In Anxious for Nothing, Max Lucado leads participants to reflect on the promises of Philippians 4:4-8.  This passage from Paul’s epistle contains an antidote to anxiety that will help you develop a mindset of resilience. You may pre-purchase a small paperback study book / journal @ $8.00 in our Church office or in the Narthex after services the last two weeks of May.
Join Pastor Mark Williams on Wednesday, June 12th at 10am in the Sunset Conference Room for a discussion on Kate Bowler's Everything Happens For a Reason: And Other Lies I’ve Loved. Frank and funny, dark and wise, Kate Bowler pulls the reader deeply into her life in an account she populates affectionately with a colorful, often hilarious retinue of friends, mega-church preachers, relatives, and doctors.  Everything Happens for a Reason tells her story, offering up her irreverent, hard-won observations on dying and the ways it has taught her to live.

We have wonderful news to share with you!

Our Daily Bread Food Pantry has been offered a $10,000 matching gift!
And we need your help to take full advantage of this generous offer. This is the perfect opportunity for you to DOUBLE the impact of your donation!
Summer is our busiest time of year - Children are out of school and unable to take advantage of school meal programs. Many of our guests live paycheck to paycheck and some are out of work or have reduced hours because ‘Season’ is over until our snowbirds come back. Our Pantry served almost 30,000 guests this past year. And we’ve continued to expand services with mobile pantries that go to places like Manatee Elementary school and 6L Farms work camps. We can’t do what we do without the continued support of our community and the ongoing generosity of donors like you. What a partnership, a blessing!
