"Celebrating God's Presence, Serving All People"
United Church News November 1st, 2019
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us Hebrews 12 :1

The Greek word in this Scripture for “cloud” (nephos) depicted the highest seats in a sports stadium. This is a powerful image because it jogs our memory to the fact that our walk of faith is likened unto a race. It begins the moment we receive Christ as our Savior and ends as He and “a cloud of witnesses” welcome us into Heaven.

In our race, we will find many obstacles. There will be many fences to be climbed, many barriers to be crept under, many deep ditches to be waded through, and even some potholes to leap over! But be encouraged dear friend! For, just as you are taking steps of obedience now, the bleachers of Heaven are currently filled with people who have already faced the enemy and won their fight. They faced the seemingly impossible; accomplished the unthinkable; and they today they stand as proof that you can make it too! In fact, they’re all cheering you on to victory!

We will be celebrating “ALL SAINTS SUNDAY” this week. It is a perfect time to gather with “listening ears of faith”, so we can hear these witnesses cheering us on, declaring, “Go for it! You can do it! Your faith will carry you through!”

Stay in the race!

Pastor Mark's Fall Bible Study:
I John, II John, III John

Continuing this Tuesday at 10AM, Pastor Kathy leads fall Bible Study on John's letters in the New Testament. In his letters, John expresses delight at believers who are "walking in the truth" and behaving with the integrity that reflects the gospel. This involved not just correct doctrine but living and embodying love for God and neighbor. It's this love, John argued, that shows the truth of the gospel really being grasped. All are invited to attend! Simply bring your Bible and an open mind!
