"Celebrating God's Presence, Serving All People"
United Church News October 25th, 2019
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On Monday, the Music Director Committee met. I wanted to update you on our exciting progress! At our meeting, we synthesized the data results from the congregation's feedback to us. Whereas the committee digested all the feedback offered, we agreed on ten common themes from the survey:

1. The congregation desires "inspirational" music at United Church.

2. The congregation desires for the music in the worship service to enhance and complement the sermon.

3. The congregation desires a music director who will continue to use the gifts and talents of the congregation while also working simultaneously to supplement the congregation's gifts with professional musicians.

4. The congregation desires variety and diversity in music (classical, jazz, gospel) and also a diversity of instruments.

5. The congregation desires a music director who will work with the church's musicians in such a way that will improve their God-given abilities and range so as to always ensure music that is of excellent quality each Sunday.

6. The congregation desires excellent year-round music--not just during the winter but twelve months a year.

7. The congregation desires a new music director with strong professional competency all the while embodying a comfortable and relatable personality.

8. The congregation values the annual music concert series and desires a music director who will support, encourage, and implement this series annually.

9. The congregation desires that the new music director create a music program that will lead to church growth--both numerically and spiritually.

10. The congregation desires that the new music director build on the efforts of our current music program, as the congregational feedback was highly complementary of our congregation's musicians including our retiring Music Director Luwayne Arnold.

After synthesizing these ten themes, we also continued our evaluation of candidates. Some months ago, we posted the position on seven different music and ministry job boards. After carefully reviewing many resumes online and after continuing the review process at our meeting, we unanimously agreed to narrow our search to three candidates. During the month of November, we plan to interview all three candidates. As this search process continues, we ask for your prayers.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Sadness has come to life of our church family in the passing of Maryanne Kunkle.

Maryanne Kunkel's service will be on Wednesday January 15th at 11AM  in the memorial garden.

As Maryanne watches over us from the great cloud of witnesses in heaven, we rejoice in having known her, and we pray for her family.

Bible Study
Pastor Mark's Fall Bible Study:
I John, II John, III John

Continuing this Tuesday at 10AM, Pastor Mark leads his fall Bible Study on John's letters in the New Testament. In his letters, John expresses delight at believers who are "walking in the truth" and behaving with the integrity that reflects the gospel. This involved not just correct doctrine but living and embodying love for God and neighbor. It's this love, John argued, that shows the truth of the gospel really being grasped. All are invited to attend! Simply bring your Bible and an open mind!

Children's Church
The 4th Sunday in October is our last journey with Paul. Our lesson is in the Children's Bible..."Letter to Jewish Christians". The craft will be a decoration for our classroom. It's a jack-o-latern luminated with yellow paper and it says..."Always let Jesus shine through you!".

A big thank you goes out to Miss Sheila and Miss Susan for teaching this past Sunday! This Sunday we will be assisted by teachers, Pam and Trish.
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Our new Children's Ministry Coordinator Debbie Bonavita is off to a great start! We are still excited about the potential of moving into multiple classrooms which would be of great benefit to our children's spiritual growth. Currently, the group divides into two on certain occasions, and we plan to do more of this in the next few months. Here are some ways you can help:

1. Pray of the church's children and their learning
2. Consider becoming a children's church teacher
3. Invite families you know to be part of our program
