Letter From The Editor

Grace and Peace be unto you UNITED!

What a special month we enter as we continue to wave our palms of Victory in our Resurrected Redeemer!  We have come this far by faith and it is ONLY prayer, worship and obedience that will propel us into our promised land.

If you're feeling the weight of everything going on around you, I urge you to meditate on this month's featured article, as Bishop Roberto Jemmott ministers to us about What To Do When The Bottom Falls Out.  There are many ways to revive your vision and refresh your soul this month, from birthday celebrations, to prayer lines and pajama parties, God has a tailor made moment for you to meet Him at the Cross, and rejoice with your UNITED family this month.

I urge you to register for the Total Praise National Music & Arts Conference TODAY.  God tells us in His Word not to grow weary in well doing because not only did He know we would encounter this, but He also knew He would be with us.  From April 3-5, 2013, the city of Brooklyn will be ablaze with worship, learning, and fellowship as the Lord takes us to a new realm in music and arts.  As you are called upon to make yet another sacrifice, I praise God for your faithfulness, and will see you there!

Mark your calendars for a glorious month as you digest this issue of the newsletter.  Be Blessed UNITED, and continue to stand.

In His Service,

Annette Parkins

When The Bottom Falls Out

At some point in our lives, we will face moments when it feels as if the bottom has fallen out. Perhaps your moment came when you received the news that a loved one passed away unexpectedly, your entire department was being laid-off or you were fired. Maybe your spouse asked for a divorce or your doctor informed you of a serious illness, requiring immediate treatment.

These moments and ones too numerous to describe are what we call life-changing moments. When everything that we stand on is pulled from under us, we describe them as "when the bottom falls out" moments. Pastor Robert Bugh in his book called, "When the Bottom Drops Out", states the following as an introduction to his book: "Nobody is immune to disappointment. Unfortunately, at some point all of us will face that horrific moment when the bottom completely drops out of our life, leaving us broken, devastated, and desperately searching for God's grace."

If you are currently facing that "horrific moment" as described by Pastor Bugh, let me encourage and give you four assurances from the Lord:

*   First, know that God is with you even when it seems as if your foundation is gone from under you. It does not matter how low you fall, the loving arms of God will be there to hold you and support you. (Deuteronomy 33:27a NLT)

*  Second, you are not alone. The Lord promises that He is always with us. (Psalms 23:4 NLT)

*   Third, call on the name of The Lord. God hears the cry of His children and He will answer if we call. (Psalms 130:1 MSG, Psalms 118:5 NLT)

*   Fourth, get ready for your "After" season. The "after season" is the time in which we begin to heal and recover from the "horrific moment". After all that Job went through he experienced his "after moment." (Job 42:10 NLT)

Be encouraged, your "horrific" or "when the bottom falls out" moment will only last for a season. Rest assured that, based on God's word and His promises, it will all be over after the season passes. Get ready for restoration!

Women of UNITED

KUDOS to all of the UNITED women who joined us on our 1st National corporate prayer line.  It was a very beautiful time of bonding and fellowship for the women of UNITED.  A special thank you to our First Lady, Dr. Delicia, who warmed our hearts with inspirational words of wisdom and powerful intercessory prayer!

God has GREAT plans for UCCC. However, they have to be birthed through corporate prayer. The term corporate is used to describe praying together with others-in small groups or in a large body of people. In Acts 2:42, we learn that the early church prayed corporately: "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." They were UNITED and as a result they experienced signs, wonders, miracles and thousands were added to the church daily. We too will see supernatural manifestations in our personal lives, families, schools, churches, communities, nations and world when we unite in prayer.

Please be aware that the enemy (our adversary) will set traps, tricks and strategies to hinder the people of God from unifying in prayer, so we must respond quickly to God's call to PRAY! When the children of Israel were being taken in bondage to Babylon, because of their disobedience, Jeremiah the prophet made a plea to send for the mourning women.  These women were to come quickly to skillfully weep, wail and mourn in sackcloth and ashes until the people moved to a mourning of repentance. Jeremiah 9:17-18,21-22 says, "Thus said the LORD of hosts, Consider you, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for cunning women, that they may come Let them come quickly and wail over us till our eyes overflow with tears and water streams from our eyelids. For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets."

Women, God has placed a special gift and ability within us to lament and mourn over the calamities that we face in this evil and seemingly godless age. When we gather together to pray, He promises to answer us and heal our land (II Chronicles 7:14). Will you take time out of your busy schedule to weep the tears of Jesus? Will you stand in the gap? Will you respond to the CALL of God to pray? Women of UNITED, can God count on us? Can I count on you to join us in prayer each month?

In His Service,

Elder Jacqueline D. Marshall

National Director of Women's Ministry
Uc3 Spotlight: Do As I Do

As the Youth Division of UNITED continues to grow, we wanted to continue to spotlight several of our leaders.  As you read Youth Pastor Christopher Cox's response to the question "what will it take to move YOUTH MINISTRY to the next level", we remember the phrase "do as I say, not as I do".  Well that doesn't work for the generation "why" today:  Why do we have to do this, Why do we have to do that...we must be determined to BE the example and empower their lives.  These are Youth Leaders that will be imparting into your children and youth as you bring them by planes, trains and automobiles to the 2013 Holy Convocation.  We are proud of the strong Youth Leaders that are connected to Uc3....Enjoy!!!

2 Timothy 4:3-5

4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.   4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

I believe that there are 2 distinct practices that will allow Youth Ministry to extend beyond the Walls of the church.

1-What company do you keep?

We have all heard these saying at least once, birds of a feather flock together or watch the company you keep. I totally agree with these sayings, however, allow me to play devil's advocate for a tad bit. How effective are we in evangelizing if we only communicate, interact, and break bread with folks who are already saved? Most Christians, if asked to go out on the street and hand out tracks about Jesus wouldn't want to do it. Why? In fear of being questioned about GOD? In fear that they aren't versed enough in the bible to defend what they believe? So how can we effectively move ministry beyond the walls of the church? When we get around people who do not know Christ, through our behavior, actions, what and how we speak, we influence them to want a relationship with our GOD. When they see how we react in certain situations and how we respond to people, without knowing we spread ministry beyond the walls of the church.

2 - How do we conduct ourselves amongst friends and behind closed doors?

It's hard to witness or evangelize to our unsaved friends and family members when we do not conduct ourselves as children of Christ around them. We must not only preach the gospel, but live it. The world has a saying, "do as I say not as I do". Our motto as Christians, trying to win souls, should be "do as I do and as I say". When we get into the routine of rehearsing and practicing what is taught to us and what we learn from studying GOD's word, we can have an impact on all unsaved people around us. We must be walking, talking examples in order to effect change around us. So my question to you is how are you viewed amongst your peers?  As young people, we often fall to our flesh and do things we see others do in attempt to fit in. Being Holy means being different. The bible says in 2 Timothy 4:3, a time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers having itchy ears. We are in a time when the world does as they please and no one has a reverence for GOD. Let's be different! This is the time for us to walk, talk, preach and be that living example the world needs.

We are generation now not generation next, so let us effect change around us and effect our generation now.

Pastor Christopher T. Cox III

Congratulations to Bishop Sheldon M. McCarter

Bishop McCarter was honored on Friday, March 22, 2013 by The Society for the Study of Afro-American History.  This event honored trail-blazing, historical Afro-American clergy for liberating and educating youth.  Many thanks to Bishop McCarter for believing in the importance of youth in ministry, praying for the youth throughout the city, and being a father to many!

New Appointment in Uc3 Leadership

We want to spotlight a new position and leader in our Uc3 leadership - Kai Martin! As you will see in her following article there is much to stay in tuned with when it comes to social media.  Uc3 WILL remain on the heartbeat of our youth - meeting them where they are and using resources that are literally at our finger tips!  We have plans via social media that are going blow your minds.  Get ready and stay tuned!! We are excited to have Kai Martin on our team as the National Youth Social Media Administrator!

************

Throughout the years, various avenues of social media have been introduced as a way of connecting people with former classmates and childhood friends, or establishing new friendships and networking with potential clients and business partners. From MySpace, BlackPlanet, Sconex to the most recent popular sites Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+ (and the list goes on), the Internet has the ability to connect people that are within a 1-1,000 miles radius all with the setup of a social page.

With social media being such a powerful resource, utilizing it to announce the order of services at a cathedral or posting words of encouragement quickly spreads. This allows you to build up an audience, establish relationships with them and maintain a constant interactive source involving status postings, flyers of upcoming events, pictures of past events, and statuses that require feedback.

As it pertains to Uc3, our goal is to build up our social media audience by encouraging youth and young adults to get excited about the things of God. This excitement will in turn cause them to want to share their experience with their family, friends, classmates and social network audience. A church filled with young people is an indication of growth. The future of the church and the continuation of its vision lies in their hands. Likewise, the more young people gravitate to a social page, the bigger the chances are of connecting with other ministry leaders, youth pastors, youth ministry members and churches; all of which can potentially become part of United.

Uc3 is on the move! Encourage your youth leaders and youth members to get involved. Have them "like" The Uc3 National Youth Congress on Facebook and "follow" Uc3 Youth on Twitter.

Prayer Changes Things!

It is time to reflect on where we have grown complacent, and where God is calling us. In all things, prayer is the key. Draw nigh to God in this season. The Lord wants to equip us for the road ahead through more time in fellowship and prayer with Him, seeking His presence.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to pray without ceasing. There are morning and afternoon prayer lines within your UNITED family that do just that! Make the sacrifice, and watch the Hand of God move supernaturally in your life, your family, your church and your community!

Rivers of Life

Out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water... John 7:38

Living life on life's terms can sometimes mean that you are presented with situations that could very well become obstacles, setbacks or hindrances if you allow them. In this book, Elder Kendra Davis provides you with the tools (the Word of GOD) using mini-sermons that were created and preached out of her personal life experiences.

It is through those undeniable experiences with GOD, like having been homeless as a child and being told by a school counselor that if she got pregnant, she could receive public housing, Medicaid, food stamps and $272.00 a month that Kendra developed an all-consuming faith in GOD and a determination to prove the critics wrong.

Kendra's many testimonies on her spiritual journey have been likened to a River of Life to all that she comes in contact with. May the very words of this collection of sermons water the dry places in your life; giving you the courage to face the giants with faith and not fear. Kendra is living proof that the Word will work if you work it!
