November 2012 Happy Thanksgiving UNITED! |
In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, we ask everyone to take a moment to pause, and lift up a prayer for our UNITED family and those affected by this devastating storm across the nation. Zechariah 7:9 reminds us to have mercy and compassion towards one another. As homeowners comb through piles debris which was once so precious, and families reach out clinging to hope for restoration, let us cover them in prayer, and lend a helping hand in our communities.
"The Bible teaches us that in everything give thanks...well during and after Hurricane Sandy, we here in Chester, PA have learned how to do that! We are thankful today because the Lord has spared our little city, yes some sections had to evacuate and several people lost power, but as we look at how the storm hit New Jersey, New York and Delaware, we are truly thankful! We are in continued pray for those who lost things and had to be displaced, God is a restorer of all things and we pray restoration for those who were hit badly by this storm." Bishop Anthony Hanna, Sr, Senior Pastor,The Cathedral St. Mark Christian Community Church, Chester, PA
"I was visiting my Mother this past weekend and had already booked my flight to return home upon hearing about Sandy. I was upset when the flight was cancelled because I had anticipated being back in Winston Salem with my family and supporting our churches conference. But looking back on that weekend...it was ordained for me to be where I was. My Mother is 86 years 'young' and my Father died over 14 years ago. My sisters and I prayed together and we charged angels to position themselves around not just our house, but around the family God. I shifted from being just the son to the protector and head of the house. When the winds picked up and the rain started pouring down, all that was in me wanting to be back in Winston Salem shifted to what needed to be accomplished and fulfilled where I was assigned to be that evening. I shared with my Sr. Pastor, Bishop McCarter, that when we woke up the morning after the Storm...when looking directly outside of the house..it would have appeared that nothing was out of the ordinary. But as I stepped out of the house, there was a tree down further down the block and on my right around the corner, branches and limbs were all over place. The Word is so true, 'For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.' Psalm 91:11 (NKJV). Looking back, regretting and wishing I had rescheduled...no, none of this is an option any longer.....I was where I needed to be...and thankful!" Overseer Frank T. Robinson, National Youth President - Youth Division (Uc3), Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church, Winston Salem, NC
UNITED, let us stand in solidarity in this sensitive time and cover each other in prayer and reach out to check on those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Anticipate The Harvest!
Growing up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I was introduced to gardening by my next door neighbor, Mrs. Olivier, who was known for keeping an exceptional garden. This woman was so passionate about gardening that she almost persuaded me to become a gardener. In her front yard were beautiful flowers and bushes and in her back yard, voluptuous vegetables. Sadly, Mrs. Olivier died and went on to be with the Lord. Her garden was never the same, because there was no one prepared to care for it and ultimately reap the harvest of it.
Genesis 8:22 states, "As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease." (NIV)
United, harvest does not just happen. There are protocols that precede harvest. The soil has to be prepared, the seed has to be sown, the ground has to be cultivated, and then one will ultimately be able to reap the harvest. These methods of procedure must not be taken lightly. The soil has to be prepared first by being broken up. We all can embrace the promise of the harvest, but have we come to grips with the pain of the process? You may be experiencing brokenness in your life, but realize that God is the Master Gardener, and He knows where and how to break you in order to deposit the seed that will produce the harvest in your life.
After the seed has been planted, the next step is to cultivate the ground. Cultivation is the lengthiest part of the gardening process since it involves irrigation and fertilization. Irrigation happens after the ground has been beat and broken up and the seed has been planted. After you've taken a beating and have been broken, the Master Gardener gives a "time of refreshing" upon you.
Now, one might think that this would be enough, but because He wants to produce the best fruit, He then has to add manure to our lives. I know it's nasty and some can't handle it, but you can't go from seedtime to harvest without going through some crap in your life. Understand that the dung gives the ground what is necessary for it to mature the seed. That's right; it takes some manure to mature! The reason we have to deal with the crap in our families, on our jobs, in our ministries . . . is because God knew what it would take for us to grow and yield the harvest. Yeah, it stinks; but deal with it, endure it; you were made to outlast it all!
Lastly, the most difficult part for us is the process of waiting. We live in an instantaneous society where instant results are the order of the day. Our supermarkets have instant coffee, instant oatmeal, instant breakfast . . . . . Our fast-food joints have drive-up windows and our banks have ATM's; we use credit cards and debt cards, instant messenger, and instagram. Should we have to wait too long for anything it would be considered a travesty of justice! However, in the spirit realm there is a different school of thought; this school of thought has to deal more with the "trying of your faith" that produces patience.
Please note: All of the aforementioned processes of prepping the soil, depositing the seed and cultivating the ground are all a part of seedtime. Don't give up, don't give in, and don't throw in the towel. You're on the brink of a miracle, because after you've gone through the process of seedtime you can anticipate your harvest!
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." (Galatians 6:9 NIV)

Being Thankful, in a Tough Situation!
Some years ago, I was driving home when my car started making a strange noise. It then began to strongly vibrate. When I pulled over to the side of the road, I discovered that my car had a flat tire.
I immediately stopped to give thanks to God. Although a flat tire was inconvenient and annoying, I was thankful to God that my car did not have a more serious problem. Seconds later I called Triple "A" Roadside Assistance and they later pulled up behind me and change my tire. Again, I give thanks to God. My tire was changed and I drove to an auto repair shop to have the tire fixed, the whole time being thankful to God for this minor inconvenience.
A Bible verse that tells us to give thanks to God is Ephesians 5:20 which says: "Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;"
Many people do not appreciate the things that God has given them and are constantly complaining about the difficulties in their lives. Instead, take the advice offered in the Bible and you will become a happier person by being thankful to God.
We recently just came out of a storm called, "SANDY" and after the winds stopped blowing and when the rain stopped falling, I looked at my wife and said, we are blessed because the Lord kept us safe even in this deadly storm. We have learned that we should not only be thankful for coming out of the storm but thank Him before the storm comes. As I close I leave this scripture with you, 1Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to always be thankful to God, saying "In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
We are fastly approaching the holiday of Thanksgiving, but remember we are always in the season of Thanksgiving everyday of our life!
As we say all the time, "Just Live on Purpose!"
Bishop Dr. Allen & Prophetess Marinda Williams |
Give Thanks!
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV)
The Bible instructs all disciples to give thanks in every thing for this is His will for us. If we interpret this instruction incorrectly it can cause unnecessary confusion, misery and even cause us to allow abuse in our life.
The wrong interpretation: 'Give thanks FOR every thing'
A more accurate interpretation is to 'Give thanks IN every situation no matter what happens. Life happens, catastrophes come, tragedy will occur and hurts and pains are inevitable, but it is through these happenings that we grow a heart of thanksgiving to God. We do not realize the worth of a can of beans in our refrigerator or a car in our driveway until we no longer have it or can afford it. Until we have the understanding of the worth of even the smallest of things we will never be truly thankful.
We are embarking on the Thanksgiving holiday and it causes us to reflect on what we are thankful for. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes this holiday to remind us to be thankful in the first place, but nevertheless we are thankful. I am thankful for so many countless blessings I freely enjoy from the Lord. I am thankful to be able to experience and enjoy life with a beautiful daughter of God, my wife. I have three adorable and healthy children. My father and mother are still alive, well and just a phone call away. God has blessed me with a home, an automobile, income and even laughter. Wow! So much to be thankful for. I am privileged to be a part of a growing and progressive ministry that is winning souls and changing lives. I am thankful that my entire church and I am being mentored by a God-formed reformation, UCCC. The list is endless. I smile even now as I pen this letter and reflect on God's unending graciousness toward us all. Thank you Jesus!
During this season take time to be thankful for where you are and what you have. Give no time to complaining. It only makes things worse. In conclusion, I leave you with advice from my 82 year old grandmother who is still alive and thriving. Love hard, forgive quick, dance long and smile often!

"Some of the most special and significant times of my life are those simple parenting moments that occur almost everyday. Moments when completely unbeknownst to my children, I have heard the voice of God in their conversations and seen His hand in the things they do. It has caused me to listen more carefully when God speaks through children."

"In the midst of those of us recovering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy, not to mention others that have recently withstood a few other personal tragedies... we still know that He is yet able! Through it all - we are grateful for life! As we get ready for Thanksgiving, be thankful for life, be grateful for the family that is around you - your natural family, your extended family and your church family! This is the time for us to come together and unite one with another. Stretch out beyond yourself, see who needs your help, and consider what random acts of kindness you can spread. God's love has to permeate through everything we do. This world should be a better place because we have been here! Let us take time to be thankful for the positive things we have in life. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson, to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded." First Lady Dr. Delicia Benjamin Garnes, Tabernacle of Praise, Brooklyn, NY
~~
"The list of things for which I am thankful for is long and varied. At this very moment, I am thankful for God's selection of me as His minister. I did not deserve the opportunity to serve Him in this way. Because of His grace to use me, I have been His minister for 20 years. I am humbled with every opportunity to stand and be His voice. To God be the glory!" Pastor Terry Hill, Jr., Senior Pastor, The Citadel Church, Jacksonville, FL
~~
"I thank God for how He has blessed my family and the Cathedral St. Mark of Chester, PA; the Lord has allowed our church this year to reach several goals that we had set out to do and those goals have been reached. We moved into our new facility in 2007 with no type of air conditioning, but we set a goal in 2012 to have it and the Lord allowed it to happen. Also we had set a goal to reach a new spiritual level and yes we have; lives are being changed and people are being delivered and set free. I am also thankful for how He has blessed my family; this year my daughter entered her freshman year at Alvernia University, Reading, PA majoring in Special Education and she is doing well. We also thought that my wife's day care center would close due to the fact that the children she had reached school age and had to leave, but one week after that happened, the phone was ringing with parents asking to have their children enrolled! So the Lord has been gracious to us and we are so thankful! Im the midst of us saying THANK YOU, the Lord worked everything out for our good! Lord, I just want to say, THANK YOU!" Bishop Anthony Hanna, Sr., Senior Pastor, The Cathedral St. Mark Christian Community Church, Chester, PA
~~
"This year I'm thankful for every closed door, every decline and every rejection I've ever gotten in ministry. For it all led me to this God ordained reformation UNITED COVENANT CHURCHES OF CHRIST under the leadership of his grace Bishop Eric Garnes. There comes a time in every believers life wherein you will face opposition & rejection. Not everyone is going to like, love, agree or accept you. Hey ask Joseph, he was strongly disliked by his brethren. Or King David, not only did his brothers have a problem with him, but so did King Saul. But neither one of them allowed people's rejection to derail their divine destiny. Therefore, I'm so grateful for every "no" every "it's not God" every "it won't last." If I could I would send a "Thank you" note to all, for it was not done to me but for me. This process landed me in what I believe to be my divine place. I gained an awesome MENTOR in Pastor Aurelia Jemmott. A model of grace in Dr. Delicia Garnes. An instructor in Bishop Roberto Jemmott and of course an attentive, considerate and helpful OVERSEER in his grace Bishop Eric D. Garnes. Thank you Lord, it was not rejection but it was redirection to my new family UNITED COVENANT CHURCHES OF CHRIST."
