After months of deliberation, I would like to share with you that I have made my final decision pertaining to the landmark designation of the United Palace, also known as the Loew's Theatre, on 175th Street and Broadway.
Throughout this time, I have taken in feedback from those both for and against this designation, understanding the history not only of the building but of the important and expert-level job its current owners have done in maintaining the beautiful structure that we have all come to love.
As you may know, the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission voted several months ago to move this site from their calendar and to recommend landmark designation. The final decision ultimately rests with the City Council, which traditionally follows the vote of the member representing the site.
This decision has not been easy to arrive at and I want to invite you to join me as I make it known to the public. I'll be at the United Palace at 2:00pm in the foyer, joined by city officials and advocates. Please feel free to RSVP with my staff Russell Murphy at rmurphy2@council.nyc.gov. I hope to see you there!
Best,
Council Member, District 10
