Who Are They and What Do They do?
Meet Leah Knaeble,President of the PV Education Association. As a local affiliate of the Arizona Education Association, the PVEA's mission is, Keeping the Promise of Quality Public Education. L
eah will discuss all that the PVEA encompasses and her leadership role. The overview of PVEA will also cover the organization's efforts to advocate for teachers and students as well as discuss collaborative efforts with the United Parent Council and other organizations in Arizona to improve public education.

The program will take place October 17, 2018 at 10:15 a.m., after the UPC Monthly Meeting at 9:00 a.m.
UPC TIP: We'd love for everyone to attend both the general meeting and the educational programming but we understand it is a long meeting! So please come for the whole meeting or just part of the meeting- hope to see you there!

Topics in Gifted Intelligence: A Psychological Perspective

Dr. Beljan will present several concepts common to gifted intelligence including:
- Common traits of gifted children
- What to do once your child has been identified as gifted
- Asynchronous development and its possible origins
- Important diagnostic concepts in gifted intelligence
In addition to basic concepts in understanding gifted and talented youth, the audience will be presented with a hypothesis to explain what may be different in a gifted child's brain that results in asynchronous development and various exceptionalities.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Paul Beljan is a pediatric neuropsychologist in private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona. Beljan Psychological Services draws patients from around the United States and internationally. Dr. Beljan is an expert in evaluating and understanding gifted children and their common misdiagnoses.
We will be back in December on Tuesday, the 4th with a presentation from Dr. Laura Wingers on "Mindfulness". Please mark your calendar for 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Governing Board Room. Please refer to the flier for more details.

United Parent Council's goals include advocacy for PV Schools' students. UPC supports prioritizing and fully funding Arizona's public schools.

Parent Leadership & Restorative Practices in PV Schools
You are cordially invited to attend a fall leadership training for parent organizations that support PVSchools. We strongly encourage each President or a representative from each Parent Group Leadership attend this training. In addition, the entire board is invited and welcome to attend.
Dr. Lee and his leadership team will present and share information important to your parent organization. Participants will also enjoy a presentation, "Understanding Restorative Practices." PV leadership truly values your contributions to our schools and looks forward to strengthening our partnership.

November Monthly Meeting and Educational Program

November Educational Programming - School Resource Officers Keeping Our Children Safe Each Day
Join us for our November Program on the 14th at
10:15 a.m. in the District Administrative Office for a presentation discussing the role of School Resource Officers. SROs are sworn law enforcement officers responsible for safety and crime prevention in schools. Hear from SROs assigned in Paradise Valley District who work hard to keep our kids safe everyday. They
will address a variety of issues including : the role of SROs, reporting lines of SROs, SRO school placement, funding of SROs, and changes that may be on the horizon SROs.
Educational programing will take place November 14, 2018 at 10:15 a.m., after the UPC Monthly Meeting at 9:00 a.m.
