September Monthly Meeting and Educational Program
Elections, Bonds, Overrides...Oh My!
Wednesday, September 18, 2019 
 
Join UPC for an informative discussion on why Arizona school districts go out for bond and override elections. Hear from education policy experts and learn how bond and override funds affect our schools and our classrooms. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the PVUSD November 5, 2019 all mail-in election.
Our panel includes the following speakers:

    Arizona School Boards Association
  • Laura Felten Assistant Superintendent of Operations,
    Paradise Valley Unified School District
  • Leah Knaeble, PVEA President and PVUSD District

The program will take place September 18, 2019 at 10:15 a.m., after the UPC Monthly Meeting at 9:00 a.m.

At the August UPC meeting, our members voted unanimously to support a YES vote to approve the Bond and District Additional Assistance (DAA) Override measures in the upcoming election. This is an all mail election. Look for your ballot beginning October 9th!

Gifted Intelligence: A Psychological Perspective
with Dr. Paul Beljan

Dr. Beljan will present several concepts common to gifted intelligence. Topic highlights will include: 
* Common signs that children with gifted intelligence present 
* Asynchronous development and its possible origins 
* Important diagnostic concepts in the diagnosis of gifted intelligence

Roadrunner School offers a highly specialized program for K-12 students district-wide and does not have a parent organization to help with these awesome events! 



First Time UPC Representative Luncheon

Attention principals and veteran UPC members! Please share our upcoming UPC Rep Luncheon with potential new UPC Reps or Alternates!                 

The 2019/2020 First Time UPC Representative Luncheon
will be held on September 18.  If this is your first time as a UPC Rep or Alternate, or perhaps you are considering taking on this role for your school, or you are a parent liaison, you are invited to stay and join us for a brief orientation lunch immediately following the September UPC Monthly Meeting and Educational Program.
 
Luncheon will be held following our meeting in the same room and will start at approximately 11:30.

Visit with UPC executive board members, Dr. Welsh, and district cabinet members, and learn about everything you need to know to serve as a liaison for your school community. This luncheon is intended for all first-time UPC reps, alternates, and parent liaisons.

UPC Planning : You Asked We Listened! 

Thank you to everyone who participated in our programming survey!  We have compiled the results and are working on creating programming based on YOUR feedback! 
October Monthly Meeting and Educational Program:
Campus Safety at PVSchools 

Join UPC for a discussion about school safety.  Leadership from Student Services will discuss how PVSchools is working to keep all students and staff safe on campus through staff and volunteer trainings, school security improvements and more.  Learn about PVSchools' safety systems, protocols and communication procedures.  You will also hear from representatives from the District Emergency Response Team and learn about their goals and initiatives for the upcoming school year. 

This program begins on October 16th at 10:15 a.m. following the UPC Monthly Meeting at 9:00 a.m.

Mastery Mathematics for Gifted Learners

Love Our Schools Day
Love Our Schools Day has been taking place across Maricopa County for the last three years. Each year this event has grown and schools have received tremendous amounts of support from their communities and have created beneficial relationships that impact each organization throughout the entire school year.
