Welcome to the 21-Day Equity Challenge!
We’re so glad you’ve decided to join us. At United Way of Whatcom County, our vision is a community where EVERYONE has the opportunity to thrive. Thank you for joining our team as we explore barriers to this goal that are rooted in discrimination, racism and unequal access to resources.

Over the past few years, United Ways across the country have published Equity Challenges in their own communities to explore these issues. This year, we join these and other organizations in creating space to learn more about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) with the hope of gaining a deeper understanding our history and community.

We acknowledge that we are not experts in this area, and so are sharing resources provided by experts and those folks doing this hard work on a regular basis. By presenting this information, we also acknowledge that struggle isn’t evenly distributed, and that certain communities, groups, and individuals are more prone to adversity for reasons far outside their control. Systemic problems are hard to tackle. But when we learn, United, we can use the knowledge we have to create the world we want to see.

So, what can you expect? Over the next 21 days we will be sharing information about important social justice issues that hamper folks’ ability to find stability and adversely impact their lives and experiences. We encourage you to set aside time each day, if possible, to read the quick topic descriptions and engage with the content. Each email will contain links to articles, videos, and/or interactive tools for you to explore.

We know that this material may not be easy and could make us uncomfortable. As we embark on this journey together, we encourage you to move at your own pace and take care of yourself.

In preparation for the next 21 days, take a look at the links below to familiarize yourself with helpful terms and United Way’s Equity Statement.
