Issue #54 | August 2022

Hello Changemakers - from all of us here at United Way Youth Venture (UWYV), Changemaking and Portrait of a Graduate (POG)

We are looking forward to participating in the 27th Annual United Way Day of Caring, on September 16. We encourage you to participate, as well. Find more information, below.

As the new school year approaches, we are gearing up for our United Way Youth Venture work within our partner schools. We look forward to seeing all of our Venturers and meeting new students eager to give Youth Venture a try.

Our summer interns wrapped up their time with us and we wish them well as they head off to college. We were grateful for their support at the "Kids Helping Kids" camp at Fitchburg High School.

View our United Way Youth Venture FY22 Results, below. It was a GREAT year!

As always, we are grateful for your continued support.

We were privileged to host four summer interns who supported us at the "Kids Helping Kids" Camp at Fitchburg High School. These four fabulous interns were all United Way Youth Venturers and members of the Fab 5 Venture Team. Next month you'll get to watch a video that details their journey through United Way Youth Venture and building Fab 5! Until then, read about their individual journeys on our bloghttps://uwyv.mwcc.edu/blog/

Thank you for all your hard work, Lili, Gabby, Tori and Claire!

"Kids Helping Kids" at Fitchburg High School

The "Kids Helping Kids" camp was made possible from a grant that Mount Wachusett Community College Foundation received from a DESE afterschool programming initiative, through the United Way of North Central Mass, as part of the three-way collaboration with two other United Way agencies in Central MA.

The grant supported Changemaking workshops and the United Way Youth Venture (UWYV) program, available to elementary, middle and high school students through multiple summer camp and student summer employment programs operated by Fitchburg Public Schools

The grant funds enabled a combination of UWYV staff, interns, and student peer leaders to implement summer programming that included Youth Venture and Changemaking-inspired learning opportunities.

UWYV promotes project-based learning, social-emotional development, and enriching real world activities for young people through a model that brings out a young person’s inner “changemaker” and results in youth-led and youth-created solutions to community problems.

At the camp, seven middle-school “Kids Helping Kids” campers engaged and taught all 71 4th-grade campers through a variety of different activities including parachute games, musical chairs, dodgeball, cake-pop making and Jenga playing.
