United Way ready to help during tax season
Seventy percent of U.S. taxpayers are eligible to file their taxes for free - but many of them don't know about MyFreeTaxes.
The United Way offers MyFreeTaxes to help people file their federal and state tax returns without spending any money in tax preparation fees. For those who need assistance filing their taxes, MyFreeTaxes connects them to the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Government Update: EBT cards can be used to shop with Instacart
North Carolina Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) participants can purchase groceries online using their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards through Instacart.com or the Instacart mobile app, providing access to an additional authorized online EBT retailer, Food Lion. This flexibility will allow participants to buy food while promoting social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and will help families with transportation and mobility barriers.
To help subsidize costs for EBT FNS beneficiaries, through March 16, 2021, Instacart will waive delivery and/or pickup fees on up to the first three EBT FNS orders for each customer with a valid EBT card associated with their Instacart account.

Happy 211 Day from the Catawba County United Way
NC211 is the health and human services referral help line provided by the United Way of North Carolina and supported by local United Ways.
The Catawba County United Way is proud to celebrate this amazing resource the CCUW helps to bring to our county.

Non-profits, stronger working together
Collaboration is a big part of the non-profit world.
A family goes to one agency in need of food assistance and they also get a referral to a second agency for help with transportation.
Someone is looking for help caring for an elderly relative from one program and then gets a referral for additional help with preparing their taxes.
The first thing you learn when you dedicate your time to helping others is that it takes a lot of hands to move a boulder, successfully, up a hill.
This is why, a corner stone of the United Way’s focus every year is working to increase the organized capacity of people to help others. It's why the Catawba County United Way takes part in as many collective non-profit conversations as it can.
An example of this kind of collaborative effort in Catawba County is the Interagency Council meeting held the second Thursday of every month. More at THIS LINK

You have a spot. Take your shot.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services launched a new online tool to help North Carolinians know when they will be eligible to get their vaccine. Find My Vaccine Group walks users through a series of questions to determine which vaccine group they are in. People can then sign up to be notified when their group can get vaccinated.
North Carolina’s goal is to vaccinate as many people as quickly and equitably as possible. Local vaccine providers have worked tirelessly to ramp up and vaccinate people under difficult circumstances. This past week, in response to indications that the federal government might base future allocations on the supply states have on hand, the state and providers worked to rapidly administer vaccinations and exhaust North Carolina’s current supply of first doses.
