The Exodus Homes apartment complex known as “The Shoe” — built in 1959 — is in crisis. This aging structure houses 34 residents and includes our administrative office, a community room, and 16 apartments. It’s more than a building — it’s a foundation of hope and recovery for people rebuilding their lives after addiction, incarceration, and homelessness.
But the building’s original galvanized plumbing is failing. Just this week, a major leak in Apartment 6 caused significant damage. The plumbing system throughout the entire complex is corroded and must be replaced.
To complete this critical project, the agency must:
-
Remove all cabinets and flooring
-
Open stucco walls to access and replace all piping
-
Install new pipes, flooring, and baseboards
-
Repair and repaint all walls and ceilings
The expected cost is approximately $425,000 to complete all the work.
Without these repairs, the program will be forced to reduce capacity — meaning:
-
More individuals turned away from the opportunity to rebuild
- Higher rates of relapse and recidivism
-
More pressure on shelters and emergency services
-
Less hope for people who have nowhere else to turn
At Exodus Homes, every bed represents a life in transition — someone choosing a new path toward stability, purpose, and dignity. “The Shoe” has served the agency's mission for over six decades.
