United Way Campaign Kick-Off
| |
The public is invited to United Way's 2013 Campaign Kick-Off to enjoy free hot dogs, chili and ice cream. Visit fun and informational booths about the health and human service agencies that United Way supports while enjoying live music by Phil G and Lori Marie. A variety of door prizes will be announced at the end of the event.
"A successful United Way campaign is very important to the quality of life in Central Arkansas." says United Way President John Nazzaro. "Local health and human service agencies, such as the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas, American Red Cross, Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Arkansas, and the Arkansas Foodbank, rely on United Way funds to carry out their missions. Last year, United Way raised over $4.4 million dollars to help people with disabilities, low-income seniors, disadvantaged youth, families-in-crisis, survivors of domestic violence, and many others. We hope to raise even more in this year's campaign."

Back to School Blitz Results
| |
There are more than 53,000 students in the Little Rock, North Little Rock and Pulaski County School Districts. Approximately 20,000 of these students are economically disadvantaged children. Many are from single-parent families, and many of the children come to school each year lacking the basic school supplies needed for classroom work.
The Heart of Arkansas United Way saw an opportunity to try to address the needs of these children and to help prevent early school failure for at risk youth.
Each year, THV 11 partners with the United Way to help provide school supplies for these children. This year, the school supply drive was held August 5th - August 9th.
This years Back to School Blitz raised over $12,000 in school supplies helping over 1,000 students that needed school supplies. This was all made possible because of each community's generous support, THV 11, THV's Ed Buckner and Wal-Mart. Each Wal-Mart location made generous donations as well.

The 6th Annual First Tee Classic is coming up on October 25nd. The First Tee Classic is the biggest fundraising event of the year, and the support they receive from the event's sponsors and participants make an immeasurable impact on the lives of the young people we serve at The First Tee.
The event begins with an 18-hole, four-person scramble tournament with a twist: One of the Youth Ambassadors will be stationed at each tee of our par-3 Honors Course and will serve as each team's "fifth player" for that hole, giving participants a chance to interact with our impressive youngsters (and to lower their score)! The evening will bring with it a dinner reception accompanied by a silent auction.
