United Way Board Updates

United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area's Board of Directors is pleased to announce William Perotti as President.

William (Bill) is a Professor Emeritus at Mohawk Valley Community College where he started the Respiratory Care Program and then taught Human Anatomy & Physiology. Bill also coordinated United Way Internal Workplace Campaigns at MVCC during the mid-2000's. In 2014 he joined the Board of Directors as an Organized Labor Representative and longtime contributor to United Way. He has served on the Basic Needs & Health, Education, and Financial Stability Allocation Committees, and the Finance Committee. Today, he is a member of UWVGU's Marketing and Governance Committees and is the President of the Board of Directors.

"I think it's great to see how much United Way does with local programs to address the needs to our community. United Way is a wonderful way to give back and connect with people who value life in the Mohawk Valley. I'm proud to be a representative of organized labor and the first Labor Representative to serve as Board President."

United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area's Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Sabrina Fryman.

Sabrina is currently an Adjunct Lecturer and Coordinator of Grants Compliance & Reporting for Mohawk Valley Community College.  She also holds several degrees, including a M.S. in Human Resource Management from Southern New Hampshire University and a MBA in Accounting & Business Management from Cameron University.  Mrs. Fryman is also a member of United Way's Finance Committee.

" I am grateful and humbled to have been selected to join the Board of Directors for United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area. I'm excited to work with everyone and help bring about increased awareness of the vital services and financial support our local United Way provides individuals and other area organizations. All of this is not possible without the help of our United Way staff, volunteers, and community partners."

Volunteer & Event Highlights

The event took place at the Commercial Drive, Oriskany, Clinton, and Kirkland locations.

8th  Annual
Back-To-School
Supply Drive

United Way of the Valley & Greater Utica Area has wrapped up its 8th annual Back-to-School Supply Drive, sponsored by Berkshire Bank. Throughout July and August, residents in Herkimer and Oneida counties donated school supplies.

More than 10,700 items adding up to over $11,200 in value was collected...

100 Women Who Care

On June 6, the  100 Women Who Care event was held at Daniele's Banquet Specialists, with proceeds supporting United Way's "Ready 4 Kindergarten" education program.

As an all-ladies-night-out, attendees enjoyed samples of skincare products, yoga, massages, wine tasting, a silent dance party and more!

Hosted by our Women United affinity group, and sponsored by PECK Property Maintenance, LLC, this event brought women who care about our community's youth for a fun evening together.

2018 Day of Action

During the school-year, many children in our community receive free breakfasts and lunches.  However, those two meals, per child per day, become an extra financial burden on the child's family during the summer.

On June 21, approximately 100 community members, including employees from lead sponsor CONEMED, volunteered their time to pack 30,000 meals for local families in need at the YMCA in Mohawk.  The food was distributed across Oneida and Herkimer counties to UWVGU's trusted partners and other basic-needs nonprofit organizations.

CrossFit Cares!

United Way and five local CrossFit gyms including 12 North CrossFit, CrossFit Exult, CrossFit Mohawk Valley, CrossFit Utica, and CrossFit Exagora, held Family Work-Out Day, Saturday July 14th 2018.

The event raised physical fitness awareness and $1,587.00 in donations.  All proceeds will benefit local programs through United Way, fighting to create a healthier community and improve our collective quality of life.

Boilermaker
Pasta Buffet

The Boilermaker Pasta Buffet, in partnership with Sodexo, proved once again to be a winner during Boilermaker Weekend by raising $3,000 for United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area.

"This event helps United Way fund solutions that help 1 in 4 people right here in our community," said Erin Gutierrez Matt, CEO and Executive Director of United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area.  "We are so thankful for the Boilermaker Road Race, Sodexo, the volunteers and those who join us for the meal before the big race to make this possible."

The 2018 Pasta Buffet, now in its 21st year, was held on Saturday, July 7th at The Fitness Mill Health and Wellness Expo on the MVCC Campus, for runners and non-runners.  The event also included a "Runner's Forum" with local Olympian Erin Hamlin and Marathoner Dane Rauschenberg.

An added bonus is the contribution of the talented Chris Cooley who, at 16 years old, has entertained crowds at the expo with his wailing guitar and contemporary songs for the past five years. Chris' guitar case quickly fills up with dollar bills which he donates to United Way. This year he brought in $116.79 during the hour he played.
