2018 Grant Process
Grant
This year's grant application process is almost complete! United Way is excited to be able to offer funding to organizations that offer impact programs to those in need in our communities. In addition, we also are in the second year of our New and Targeted Initiatives funding, which opened up our funding opportunities to new organizations and programs within our 10-county service area.

The grant process started in January 2018, when we started accepting Letters of Interest for our New & Targeted Initiatives funding and currently sponsored programs started their grant applications. Letters of Interest were reviewed and applicants were invited to continue with the process of the grant application. Over 20 volunteers donated their time and expertise to review all the grant applications submitted. Volunteers also attended and scored oral presentations for the New & Targeted Initiatives applicants.

Stacie Halverson:

This year was my first year being involved in both the grant review process and the oral presentation process.  Every program has merit, however it was those whose passion for their cause that inspired me.  The oral presentations for the New and Targeted Initiatives were fantastic and opened my eyes to the many needs in our community.  The Dubuque Area is filled with great people doing extraordinary things.  I'm grateful to have been a small part in the process.

After all the scoring and presentations were done, volunteers came together to determine allocation for the funding cycle. This process has to be the hardest of all, as there are far more funds requested than we can provide. With determination and hard work, volunteers recommend allocations to the programs that fit the needs of the community. Recommendations are then taken to the Community Impact Committee, followed by the Board of Directors, where final recommendations are decided.
Funding decisions, with board approval, will be made in April 2018. More info on funded partners and their programs will be shared soon!
