Change

You can help change someone's future ...

However you get your local news, you've probably seen too much bad news. Budget cuts, unemployment, hundreds of local people without health insurance, and the list goes on.
Here at United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States, we are working every day to find solutions to community issues and to fund local health and human service agencies who provide services and programs to help those most in need.

United Way focuses on HEALTH, EDUCATION and INCOME.
Our belief is that everyone deserves a quality education that leads to stable employment, the ability to earn and manage money to support a family through retirement, and access to affordable healthcare.

Did you know:
  • United Way  helps fund 40 programs across 26 nonprofits to support the pillars of health, education and income.
  • Programs demonstrate how the funding helps make an impact in the community. Last year,
    • 1,673 people were able to receive mental health counseling services
    • 156 youth were provided substance abuse services
    •  474 people were provided homeless services
    • 2,501 people were provided healthy and nutritious food
    • 29,000 meals were provided to area low income youth
    • 3,000 children were served by educational programs
    • Mentor services provided a total of 2,217 hours with area children

We need your help now more than ever to meet today's issues.  With your investment, we all win when a child succeeds in school, a family achieves financial stability, and when our neighbors are healthy and safe.

The donations that you make stay local. Together, united, we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow.  That's what it means to LIVE UNITED.

With Sincere Thanks,

Danielle Peterson, President/CEO

United We Win!
Hill

On January 31, 2018, twenty-four local United Ways from across the state came together to meet with local legislators to discuss issues important to health, education and income/financial stability.   United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States also brought staff from our funded partner, Catholic Charities as well as a United Way Board member and IBEW Representative, Tom Townsend.

We were thrilled to be able to meet with 11 of 13 of our Iowa Legislators in our coverage area and spoke about a variety of issues impacting us locally.  We discussed the United Ways of Iowa's 2018 Legislative Priorities which can be viewed here   https://dbqunitedway.org/cms-view-page.php?page=advocate and shared local data around the impact of those issues on our community.  Some of the larger topics discussed centered around access to quality mental health services, child care cliff effect, basic needs support for food and shelter, 2-1-1 Information and Referral, and Future Ready Iowa goals, to name a few.
Thank you to all our area legislators who represent Iowans in their districts.  We appreciate their willingness to listen, to ask questions and to fight for our communities to prosper with safe, healthy, and financially stable community members.

Homeless

The  H omeless Advisory Coalition is an i ndependent group of organizations who work with the area homeless population for the purpose of raising awareness in Dubuque about homelessness in our community. This month, the group will be conducting a Point in Time Count of the homeless population. This year, with the State Initiative of Coordinated Entry, groups will also be conducting street counts in Delaware, Jackson and Clinton counties as well.

The groups will spend the afternoon, evening, and early morning hours counting as many area homeless as they find on the street and in shelters.

I nformation is provided to the state in order to get an idea of how many homeless people are in Iowa. Last year only 6 counties in Iowa were reporting. This year, with the Coordinated Entry initiative, more counties will be providing a count to report a more accurate percentage of homelessness in Iowa. The count helps the Homeless Advisory Coalition better understand local need. It also identifies increases and decreases in the population to show what is working and what needs improvement.
New and Targeted Initiatives:

Initiatives
We were extremely excited to open our second year of funding for New & Targeted Initiatives. This funding source was designed for new or emerging programs that address targeted community-wide issues in order to make significant and sustainable progress OR - programs within the 10-county UWDATS service area that are not funded through UWDATS' currently sponsored programs. This year we received 25 letters of interest in response to this funding availability that focus on either health, education or income/financial stability. After  these letters are reviewed, applicants will be invited to continue with the grant process.
