Campaign

United Way has been busy during our campaign season working with and supporting businesses with our Campaign Cabinet.

We have learned from some of the campaign kickoffs that employees were surprised to learn that:
- United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States has been around for almost 90 years!
- Besides the great programming that United Way helps to support, their employees may benefit from numerous United Way Funded Initiatives like FamilyWize, 2-1-1 Information Referral, and more.
- United Way's Get Connected Volunteer Portal already has 2,400 people registered to find a volunteer experience that fuels their passion and it only takes minutes to make your profile.

United We Win!
There's No Place Like Home- Dubuque, Delaware, and Jackson County Homeless Stand Down

The Stand Down concept was used during the Vietnam War to provide a safe retreat for units returning from combat operations where troops were able to take care of personal hygiene, get clean uniforms, enjoy warm meals, receive medical and dental care, and more in a safe environment.

38 organizations came together for this event including: U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, IowaWORKS of NE Iowa, Hillcrest Family Services, Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa, Inc., United Way, Delaware/Dubuque/Jackson County Commissions of Veteran Affairs, Substance Abuse Service Center, Homeless Advisory Coalition, Veterans Freedom Center, and many other providers.

More than 65 people attended the first Dubuque, Delaware, and Jackson County Homeless Stand Down. The event was held at the Masonic Temple on Thursday September 28th from 10am-2pm, and provided veterans and homeless individuals with resources from our community. This was not just a resource fair, this was an active session for people to sign up, make appointments, and have face to face interactions with resources in our community.

3 Fast Facts about our Funded Partner, Substance Abuse Services Center:

-In 2017 our school based counselors spent 87% of their face to face contact with students experiencing substance use within their home.

-In the first month of this school year we have been able to see 55 students with 89% of those students experiencing substance use within the home.

-A 17 year old female requested to meet with our school based counselor at the beginning of the year. She was seeking guidance related to support and education due to having 2 substance related incidences over the summer. With the help of the school based counselor we were able to coordinate with Juvenile Court Services to determine her eligibility for a 4-hour educational course. She was able to enroll in our 4-hour drug diversion educational course. She continues to maintain contact with our school based counselor and is willing to seek out a formal substance use evaluation if needed after completing the educational course.
