 Community Baby ShowerVolunteer
 
Over 50 people attended the first Community Baby Shower in Dubuque. The event was held on Saturday August 28th at Steeple Square Event Center. United Way worked closely with Amerihealth Caritas and programs from the Dubuque Community to educate new moms and pregnant women about prenatal information. Not only were the mom's educated, but they had multiple chances to win raffle items that included: a new stroller, a new car seat, and many other baby items. 



Presentations were available for all interested attendees and vendor tables included: Dubuque Visiting Nurse Association, Dubuque County Early Childhood, Four Oaks/Parents As Teachers, Child Care Resource and Referral, Hillcrest-WIC, Birthright, Dubuque Police Department- Car Seat Safety, Amerihealth Caritas, Mary's Inn, Dubuque Carnegie Stout Library, Community Partnership for Protecting Children, Women UNITED, and Clarity Clinic.

Meet our New Director of Resource Development & Donor Relations


United Way welcomes Sondra Briese as the new Director of Resource Development & Donor Relations. 

Sondra began her philanthropic career at St. Joseph Mercy Medical Center in Port Huron, MI where she grew the foundation program and improved donations by 40%. Sondra was then promoted to Vice President of the foundation, marketing and volunteers at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA and grew the program visibility and donations by 30%. She has educational background in Strategic Leadership & Marketing. 

Sondra also enjoys sharing her knowledge of health and wellness by educating people about nutrition and exercise physiology. She is a certified health coach through the Institute for Integrated Nutrition and is currently working on a certification in stress management through the American Institute of Healthcare Professionals.  

She is very excited to be working at United Way and we are all excited for Sondra to join us in raising our campaign funds for this year.

Labor Day Parade
Dubuque's Annual Labor Day Parade was on Monday September 4th this year. The parade started at Jackson Park and ended at Washington Park. People lined the streets of the parade route and watched as Labor Unions, Representatives, Businesses, Non-Profits, and the School Bands walked in the parade. United Way and Funded Partners provided 33 people to walk in this year's Labor Day Parade. We were all excited to have been a part of the parade, and have great ideas for next years parade. United Way would like to thank Tom Townsend, Mark Cook, Dan Hammel, and Shelly Freiburger for planning and running this amazing event.
John Deere Volunteer Event  
John Deere Dubuque Works provided over 100 volunteers in order to have an onsite volunteer experience where employees built 8 picnic tables for Hillcrest Family Services, one of our funded partners .  Hillcrest shared that having a meal at a picnic table may be something many of us think of as a regular event for our families during nice weather.  For the youth having access to the picnic tables at Hillcrest, this provides them the same experience-the chance to have a meal and conversation with family during their visits.  They were thrilled to have these wonderful picnic tables on their campus.
