Partner Agencies:
Community Stories
Thanks to the generous support of our funders and donors like you, United Way of Tucson has been able to help individuals and families start to recover and rebuild their lives in conjunction with our partner organizations. Below you will read the stories of these individuals and how they have been directly affected during this COVID-19 crisis.
" United Way funding is helping us pay rent, mortgage, and utilities for our most vulnerable families in Tucson. We are supporting families who are not qualifying for other assistance due to various requirements. We are seeing many requests from single parents struggling to support three or four children amid lost jobs and school closures. With COVID funding from United Way, we have paused multiple evictions, recovered mortgage payments, and turned on cell phone and internet services for families in Sunnyside schools. Thank you, United Way - you are #SunnysideStrong!"

– Kerri Lopez-Howell, Executive Director at Sunnyside Foundation
Housing Assistance
Catholic Community Services of Southern AZ: “Olivia* had been working as a child care provider when the pandemic hit. Her center closed, and she immediately lost the source of income used to support her and her 10-year-old son. Initially, she was able to use savings to cover expenses, but as the pandemic has continued and her child care center remains closed, she struggled to keep up. It looks like her center is re-opening, so Olivia and her son should have income again soon. But until then, COVID funds are helping us cover her biggest and most worrisome expense - rent - while our agency supplements with support for groceries and household needs.”
Family Assistance
Youth On Their Own: “Because her mother has struggled with homelessness, Cristina* has been living with her grandparents for a while now. At times, it has been difficult for her to be apart from her mother, and the situation has become even more challenging with the pandemic. However, she has been an active participant in YOTO programming over the past few months and worked tirelessly to keep up with her middle school classes. We are happy to share that she recently made straight A’s! These COVID funds helped us provide her and her grandparents with grocery assistance to lessen the stress on their household.”
