A Season of Gratitude, A Season of Hope

As the holiday season approaches and we prepare to welcome a new year, I find myself reflecting on the many blessings that surround us. This is a season of gratitude, generosity, and renewed hope—a time to appreciate what we have and remember those in our community who may be facing challenges we cannot always see.

At United Way of Greater High Point, hope is at the heart of everything we do. It is the hope of a parent working hard to provide for their family, a senior seeking stability and connection, or a child who deserves every opportunity to thrive. Through the generosity of our community, we help turn that hope into meaningful, lasting change.

Yet, as many of us gather with loved ones to celebrate the holidays, we know that thousands of our neighbors continue to face difficult choices. For some, the new year brings uncertainty about how they will afford groceries, keep the lights on, or provide a safe and stable home for their families. Their struggles do not pause for the holidays, and neither does our commitment to helping them.

We are now in the heart of our annual campaign, working toward our $3.8 million goal. Reaching that goal will require the generosity and commitment of our entire community. Every gift, regardless of size, represents something far greater than a dollar amount. It represents compassion, opportunity, and the promise that no one in Greater High Point has to face life's challenges alone.

One of the things I treasure most about this community is the extraordinary way people come together when there is a need. Year after year, you remind me that generosity is not simply about what we give, but about the lives we touch and the hope we inspire.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the promise of a new year, I want to express my deepest gratitude to our donors, volunteers, community partners, and advocates. Your kindness and commitment make our mission possible.

Together, we are more than a community of generous people. We are a community that gives hope.

From all of us at United Way of Greater High Point, may your holidays be filled with peace, joy, and the warmth of those you love. Thank you for being part of something that truly changes lives.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Jane

Help Make the Holidays Brighter for Local Seniors

This holiday season, United Way of Greater High Point invites our community to spread joy, kindness, and holiday cheer through our annual Santa for Seniors Giving Tuesday initiative on Tuesday, December 1, 2026.

For many older adults in our community, the holidays can be a challenging time. Through Santa for Seniors, we have an opportunity to remind them that they are valued, remembered, and cared for. With the generosity of individuals, businesses, and community partners, we can help make the season a little brighter by providing gifts filled with everyday essentials, comfort items, and holiday surprises.

There are several ways to become someone’s Santa! Community members can purchase items from our holiday wish list, make a monetary donation, or shop directly through our Amazon Wish List.

Requested items include personal care products such as soap, shampoo, lotion, toothbrush kits, and lip balm; activity items such as puzzle books, word searches, coloring books, and colored pencils; and comfort items such as blankets, gloves, scarves, hats, and other thoughtful gifts.

Donations will benefit seniors served by Randolph Senior Adults Association and Senior Resources of Guilford, helping bring warmth, comfort, and smiles to older adults throughout our community.

  • Donate Wish List Items: Drop off donations at United Way of Greater High Point, 815 Phillips Avenue, High Point, NC, on or before December 1, 2026.

Honoring Dr. King's Legacy Through Service

MLK Winter Care Kit Packing Event Returns in 2027

Join United Way of Greater High Point's African American Initiative in spreading warmth, hope, and compassion to our unhoused neighbors.

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of service, compassion, and community unity, the African American Initiative of United Way of Greater High Point is once again hosting its annual MLK Winter Care Kit Packing Event on Monday, January 18, 2027, in recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

As temperatures drop, individuals experiencing homelessness face additional challenges in staying warm, healthy, and safe. This meaningful service project brings our community together to assemble winter care kits filled with essential items that provide comfort, dignity, and practical support to our unhoused neighbors.

We Need Your Help!

The success of this initiative depends on the generosity of individuals, businesses, churches, and community organizations. We are seeking donations of essential winter supplies, including warm socks, gloves, hats, hand warmers, hygiene products, and other personal care necessities. Every donated item helps us extend kindness and support to someone facing difficult circumstances.

There Are Several Ways to Give:

  • Shop and Ship: Purchase needed items through Amazon or your favorite retailer and have them shipped directly to United Way of Greater High Point.

  • Drop Off Donations: Bring donated items to our office at 815 Phillips Avenue, High Point, NC.

  • Make a Monetary Gift: Financial contributions are also welcome and will help purchase essential supplies for the winter care kits.

On MLK Day, volunteers will come together to pack the donated supplies into care kits for distribution to individuals experiencing homelessness throughout our community.

Dr. King reminded us, "Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve." This project puts those words into action by turning compassion into meaningful service.

Together, we can make a difference—one care kit, one act of kindness, and one neighbor at a time.

Join us in honoring Dr. King's dream by helping ensure that our unhoused neighbors know they are seen, valued, and supported.

2026 CAMPAIGN UPDATE

BRINGING OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER

When our community comes together, meaningful change happens. The 2026 United Way of Greater High Point community campaign is well underway, bringing together businesses, organizations, and individuals across High Point, Archdale, Trinity, and Jamestown around a shared purpose: making our community stronger.

We are halfway through our campaign journey toward our $3.8 million goal! Every pledge, every workplace campaign, and every act of generosity moves us closer to that goal and helps ensure our neighbors can access the resources and support they need to thrive.

Our 2026 Campaign Cabinet Chair, Jenna Beane, shares:

“We’ve reached 50% of our campaign goal, and while that’s an exciting milestone, we still have work to do.”

As we look ahead to the second half of our campaign, every gift matters. Thank you to our donors, workplace campaign coordinators, volunteers, and corporate partners for helping make this work possible.

Jenna shares, “Every one of us has been asked to give before and I know many of our neighbors are feeling the rising cost of living. A $100 gift in 2016 would need to be about $139 today to buy the same thing. So, I’m asking our businesses, organizations, and friends to work alongside the United Way of Greater High Point, dig a little deeper and give from the heart. You may be helping a friend or someone you love without knowing it. Every dollar still matters, and the people of High Point have always come together to support one another.”

When we invest in our neighbors, we invest in the future of our entire community. Together, we are building a stronger High Point for everyone.

JOIN US TODAY BY GIVING BACK, GETTING INVOLVED, AND TAKING ACTION.

We are grateful for you!

Community in Action

Here's what we've accomplished together

Community Comes Together to Collect Over 30,000 Pounds of Food During 17th Annual CANpaign!

United Way of Greater High Point celebrates another successful year of fighting hunger and supporting local families.

The power of community was on full display during United Way of Greater High Point's 17th Annual CANpaign Food Drive, as generous individuals, businesses, schools, and community partners came together to help fight food insecurity in our community.

Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community, this year's CANpaign collected over 30,000 pounds of food, which was distributed to more than 19 local food pantries serving individuals and families facing hunger throughout the Greater High Point area.

For 17 years, the CANpaign food drive has demonstrated what is possible when a community unites around a common purpose. Each donated can, box, and bag of food represents more than a meal—it represents hope, compassion, and the reassurance that our neighbors are not alone during challenging times.

With food costs continuing to place a strain on household budgets, local food pantries remain a critical lifeline for families, seniors, and individuals struggling to make ends meet. The donations collected through CANpaign help these organizations replenish their shelves and continue providing much-needed assistance.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to every donor, volunteer, business, organization, and community partner who helped make this year's food drive a success. Whether you donated food, organized a collection, helped spread the word, or supported the effort in another way, your generosity made a meaningful difference.

As we celebrate 17 years of CANpaign, we are reminded that lasting community impact happens when we work together. United Way of Greater High Point remains committed to connecting people and resources to address critical needs and build a stronger, healthier community.

Together, we collected more than food. We shared hope, strengthened partnerships, and demonstrated that UNITED IS THE WAY! Donations are accepted year-round! So, feel free to keep the donations coming.

Developing Tomorrow's Leaders: Project Board Development Celebrates 12 Graduates!

United Way of Greater High Point's African American Initiative continues to build a stronger community by preparing diverse leaders for service.

United Way of Greater High Point is proud to celebrate 12 graduates of its Project Board Development (PBD) program, an initiative of the organization's African American Initiative (AAI). These individuals have successfully completed an intensive eight-week leadership training program designed to prepare emerging leaders to make a meaningful impact through board service and community involvement.

Project Board Development was created to identify, recruit, and equip diverse individuals with the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to serve effectively on nonprofit boards of directors, school PTAs, advisory committees, and health and human service governing boards.

Throughout the eight-week program, participants gained valuable insight into the responsibilities of board leadership through interactive sessions covering Board 101, fiduciary responsibility, strategic planning, media relations and marketing, grant writing and fundraising, parliamentary procedures, and a poverty simulation designed to deepen their understanding of challenges facing individuals and families in our community.

Beyond the classroom, the program provides participants with opportunities to connect with community leaders, build professional relationships, and better understand how their talents and perspectives can contribute to the success of local organizations.

This Fall’s 12 graduates represent the next generation of community leaders who are ready to bring fresh perspectives, diverse experiences, and a commitment to service to organizations throughout Greater High Point.

United Way of Greater High Point extends its congratulations to each graduate and sincere appreciation to the volunteer instructors, community partners, and supporters who generously shared their time and expertise throughout the program.

Through initiatives like Project Board Development, the African American Initiative continues to create pathways for leadership, strengthen representation in community decision-making, and empower individuals to become agents of positive change.

Congratulations to our 2026 Fall Project Board Development graduates!
