WEEKLY UPDATE December 3, 2024

There is a constant flow of giving and receiving at work in our universe. So whenever I make the decision to give, I am also getting something in return.

Even the air I breathe illustrates the law of circulation at work. Plants release the oxygen we must have to live, and as we exhale, we transform it into the carbon dioxide they need to thrive. Without the exchange of giving and receiving, neither would survive.

I remember this as I give. My generosity fills my heart and helps me realize my prosperity. I open my heart wide to the dynamic flow of life, generously giving what I have to share of my time, my talents, and my treasure.

In giving generously, I receive abundantly. The gifts of joy, love, and peace are mine.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. - Matthew 6:21

Acceptance & Peace

There can be great comfort in understanding why certain things have come to pass. Even if I don’t like what happened or didn’t choose it, finding a reason for it can be a comfort and give me some peace of mind.

But there will always be happenings in the world and in my life that defy logical sense, that don’t seem to have a reason behind them. If I spend too much time turning these events over in mind, I rob myself of acceptance and peace.

Practicing spiritual surrender helps me find the peace I seek. I turn my attention away from the unknowable and toward enduring spiritual truth. God is with and within me, through all the peaks and valleys of life. This is perhaps my greatest source of peace and understanding. I practice acceptance and find peace.

Last Sunday we took a fun, reflective look back on the beautiful year we've shared together at Unity Williamsburg Spiritual Center. We each had the opportunity to provide celebratory feedback on our favorite events during the year with facilitator Duncan Hamra. Our goal is to hold up what we loved most in 2024 so we can carry it forward into next year. We will share the findings with the board and future spiritual leader.

If you were unable to attend in person, please click on the link here to access a public Google Document that contains all of the collected feedback. Here you can add input about your favorite events. Note: there is a separate and private space for constructive feedback online. This document will be available through December 31st. Thanks for letting us know which experiences you enjoyed the most at UWSC!

UWSC Christmas Crafting, Creating & Caroling

Join us from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM this Saturday, December 7th for a morning of Christmas fun and fellowship! We will start by decorating the sanctuary for the holidays to Christmas music and then join for crafting in the fellowship hall. Bring your favorite crafty project or try your hand at origami, macrame and other homemade ornament projects. All ages and abilities most welcome! Any crafting tools you have to share for the day (hot glue guns, scissors, etc) would be greatly appreciated.

Unity Williamsburg Spiritual Center graciously accepts love offerings during Sunday Services and special events, online through paypal.me/UnityWilliamsburg, Zeffy, and by check, mailed to 624 Queens Creek Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185

Message from the Board

On Sunday, Duncan Hamra lead the congregation in a well-organized activity of reflecting on UWSC events and speakers during 2024. My first reaction when seeing the lists was shock! When we are in the middle of keeping all daily requirements met and checking off lists of action items, it is easy to lose sight of the meaningful work achieved. Many hands make light work. All the things listed on the pages around the sanctuary would not have been possible without a wonderful group of volunteers, creative thinkers and a supportive, loving UWSC community. The feedback that Duncan compiled was especially gratifying to read. The seeds that Rev. Jan planted when she first organized Unity Fellowship nearly 30 years ago has allowed those founding principles of spiritual growth and exploration in an open, supportive, and loving community to flourish at UWSC today. We are, indeed, so very blessed!

It is with results of Sunday's congregational activity and the abundant feedback from the community that the Board moves into the final phases of review of our spiritual leader candidates. We humbly ask for your prayers for discernment, wisdom and insight. May our decisions and steps be ordered and aligned with God's highest intentions for our UWSC community.

~ Peace be with you, A

In Remembrance...

On Sunday afternoon, long time UWSC members Ray and Kathy Whipple learned their beloved grandson, Zachary Schonborn, had been killed in a tragic motorcycle accident in Norfolk. Zachary was 23 years old and an active duty sailor in the US Navy.

In a local news article this morning, Zachary was described by a friend as a "bright, shining light". He went on to say that, "(Zachary) is a stranger for two seconds and that's about it... Then, he is your best friend, your brother." Clearly, this young man had a profound impact on his friends and family in his short time on Earth and will be deeply missed by all those who had the honor and privilege of knowing him.

Please hold Ray, Kathy and their family in your prayers that the love of God surround, enfold and comfort them in their time of grief. Please also pray for Zachary's ease and peace in transition.

Zeffy is a fee-free donation portal specifically for non-profits. This means 100% of your love offering comes to UWSC. There will be cards with the scannable QR codes in the Sanctuary on Sunday like the one pictured. By scanning the QR code, you are taken to a donation page where you can choose a one time or recurring donation and amount. You do not need to create an account. Once you submit your donation, you will receive an immediate "Thank You" email with a downloadable tax-deductible donation receipt for your records.

So give it a try and let the Board know what you think!

If you know kids in need of service hours or projects for their scouting or school clubs, Unity Williamsburg would welcome their efforts! We can provide any needed signoffs for their reporting documentation. Please have them contact Amy Shao for more information.
