WEEKLY UPDATE November 14, 2023 | |
|
November is traditionally a month for gratitude, and one thing I am most grateful for is Unity’s teachings. In his book Practical Metaphysics, Eric Butterworth recommends going on a “Seven Day Verbal Diet.” He challenges us — no, dares us — to go on a fast, a mental diet from negative thinking. Sometimes in Unity it’s been called giving up that “stinkin’ thinkin’". We all can fall prey to it; the key is becoming aware of those negative thoughts, especially our habitually negative ones and then renouncing, eliminating, or eschewing those thought patterns.
Sue Riley, the Music Director at Unity Church of Clearwater in Florida, penned a song in 2004 entitled “I Am the Thinker.” I love that song! Not only is it a catchy tune, but the lyrics are fabulous. The chorus is “I am the thinker who thinks the thought, that changes things that shape my life… I am the thinker who thinks the thought, I have the power to change my life!”
So, you have it. YOU have the power. It’s really very simple, not always so easy to put into practice, but the concept is simple. Another Unity composer, Carmen Moshier, wrote a song I grew up singing, entitled “We Make Our Own World.” One line is “let’s watch our thinking,” and another is “We make our own world, wherever we are. Keep thinking happy, we’ll make a new world!” As we move more solidly into this month of gratitude, I invite you to embrace the power of elimination and eliminate the negative thinking from your life. In the process you will make a new world for yourself!

About Our Speaker...
I…AM…EMAGERY
"I am Tierra “Emagery” Key, a spoken word artist. Poetry is one of God’s gifts to me, and I love to glorify God by sharing this gift with others. I am from Williamsburg, VA and reside in Toano, VA. I have been performing poetry for 21 years. My goals in performing are to uplift, inspire, and help with the healing process. My poetry says, “I can relate.” It is about human issues, but I write mostly on women issues. When I have not experienced a pain, I still will write about it if I have seen others go through it."
Be inspired!

My Thoughts Create My Life
While you may not be able to determine which thought pops into your head, you can determine if you hold onto that thought or keep repeating it. To experience your abundance, you must constantly release fear-based, negative thoughts and consciously choose those which will build your life and your dreams. Be careful not to resist any thoughts, just observe. The thoughts that we engage with become beliefs, and beliefs certainly do manifest in our lives. Your faith, your belief is creating your life right now. So, what is your faith in? Lack or Abundance, ease or struggle? My thoughts create my life!

May I be blessed
As I walk upon my path.
May I never feel alone,
Or lost,
Or defeated.
May I learn the strength of
my heart,
the wisdom of my spirit,
the immortality of my soul.

We are in need of additional volunteers for our rotating schedule of Platform Assistants, Greeters and Closers. Platform Assistants read from a scripted order of service each Sunday to introduce songs and guest speakers and share affirmations. Greeters arrive 20 minutes before Sunday services to welcome people as they come in a pass out Sunday bulletins. Closers ensure the thermostats are reset to non-service temperatures, turn off all lights, ensure coffee pots are turned off and ensure that the building is locked and secured before leaving after Sunday service.
If you would be interested in being added to our rotation schedule for any of these positions or have questions about responsibilities, please contact Amy Shao, Jude Eastman or Susan Cardozo.
