What is Unity?
Unity is the fundamental law of the universe. The word universe means “the whole body of things.” Every part is a unity of the whole, and there is a unity of all the parts. The scientist works with his laws, the musician with his chords, the mathematician with his equations, the religionist with his spiritual concepts. However, all are on the quest for Truth, searching on different levels, and reporting their findings in different words.
It is the consciousness of this unity with God, with life, with all intelligence and all substance, that is man’s only basis for security and his sole hope for fulfillment. In a very real sense there is only one church in the world. It is that place of relationship within every man where the human merges into the divine. Here each person can “enter in and close the door” and feel the peace and power and transforming influence of the activity of God in himself. This he can feel no matter what church he belongs to or what temple he worships in. The word is unity.
The Unity Center is devoted to the spread of this idea that the great and only strength of the world and the (wo)men within it is their unity with God. Unity preaches this gospel to all people, across all religious and denominational lines, seeking not to convert people from one ecclesiastical organization to another, but rather to help them to be “transformed by the renewing of the mind.” No matter what your religious affiliation may be, or even that you may not feel yourself to be religious at all, the sole purpose of Unity is to help you to have “a first-hand and immediate experience of God.”

On Sunday, we welcome back Carylanne Steinberg who will share her message, The Magic of the Word. She explains, "In the beginning was the word and the word was God and the word was with God. Our words, like our prayers are powerful. Words and prayers are Love/ God in motion. God is forever present in the word and when we acknowledge this truth , align in word, thought and action with the Divine, life is beautiful, magical and abundant. We can use the word to uplift, to prosper to love or harm. In the book, the Four Agreements by author Don Miguel Ruiz, he says “ Being impeccable with our word is the correct use of our energy.” It means to use your your energy in the direction of truth and love for yourself.” I am delighted to speak on the magic and power of the word for this is our authentic expression." Be sure to join us for this empowering talk!

Prayer is the rhythm of my heart. With every beat, I feel my connection to God, my source of all that is good. My prayer practice helps me deepen this awareness. I align with the presence of God within as I quiet my thoughts and mental chatter. In this state of calm, I gain a new sense of peace and divine order in my life. I affirm I can do all things through the power and presence of God within.

Bringing UWSC Community to Shut Ins
One of our community's original and long time members, Lin Pearson, is currently in a Williamsburg care facility. For many years, Lin spearheaded the effort to keep our sanctuary and Fellowship Hall beautifully decorated for each season. She maintains her spunky spirit, keen mind and deep faith and our shared Unity principles. Lin is part of our extended UWSC community and it would be really special if those that are able could stop in for a visit. Even if you've never met Lin in person before now, letting her know you are part of the UWSC family and sharing some uplifting conversation would be appreciated beyond words. Lin is at:
Williamsburg Post Acute & Rehabilitation

Unity Williamsburg Spiritual Center is blessed to be part of the greater Unity movement—a tradition rooted in spiritual freedom, practical faith, and the transformative power of prayer. When Myrtle and Charles Fillmore founded Unity in the late 1800s, they built a movement, not an institution. Their goal was never to create rigid structure, but to awaken people to their own divine potential and empower communities to live from Christ Consciousness.
In that same spirit, UWSC continues as an independent Unity community. This independence gives us the freedom to respond directly to the needs of our own congregation and the broader Williamsburg community. When Rev. Denise retired in 2023, the Board prayerfully considered joining Unity Worldwide to be assigned a minister. Ultimately, we reaffirmed that our strength lies in remaining an independent Unity center—trusting that our own spiritual community is best equipped to discern and meet our evolving needs.
You may occasionally see conversations online about organizational or leadership changes within Unity Worldwide or other national Unity groups. While those are meaningful discussions for the broader movement, they do not affect us here at UWSC. The teachings, meditations, and resources shared through TruthUnity and Unity.org remain wonderful tools for spiritual growth.
Here at UWSC, our focus remains simple and steadfast: to be a beacon of love, peace, and practical spirituality—rooted in the timeless Unity principles of Oneness, Faith, and the Power of Thought.
With gratitude, A
Amy Shao, President
Teo Feliciano, Vice President
Lynda Birckhead, Secretary

What It Means to Be an Independent Unity Community
Unity Williamsburg Spiritual Center is part of the greater Unity movement, but we are independently governed and guided by our own local Board and community.
This independence allows UWSC to:
- Respond directly to the spiritual needs of our members and neighbors.
- Choose guest speakers, workshops, and programs that reflect our community’s evolving journey.
- Maintain freedom from national Unity organizational changes or leadership shifts.
While we value the shared teachings of Unity Worldwide and TruthUnity, our focus remains right here—serving as a beacon of Christ Consciousness, peace, and practical spirituality for all who walk through our doors.
