Sunday, February 19, 2023 ~ "Living Your Purpose"
|
|
In her book, “How to Let God Help You,” Unity Co-Founder Myrtle Fillmore notes the real purpose of your life is “to express the creation of God—to unfold the many departments of your mind which God has planned for you, and which will enable you to know and to do His will. When you know that there is nothing for you to worry about or to fear, you may then relax and feel happy.”
Even though Myrtle is using a masculine pronoun for God, she is not referring to a male god; neither is she suggesting an outer god. As we study her words, we realize that she is saying that we were born Divine. And within us all there is a purpose that we were born to fulfill.
Often, we make “purpose” mean something huge, then become terrified we cannot fulfill it. Is your purpose to heal generational wounds? Is it to be a loving mother, father, grandmother? Is it to be there for a niece or nephew who needs you?
We know that when we change the world one person at a time, our purpose becomes livable. Let’s talk about our purpose this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Let’s share what we know about ourselves and what we are currently discovering together. Then together, we can make the world a better place.
Blessings,
Rev. Doris Hoskins

Prayer for Wholeness
Offered by Chaplain Ustaine Talley
Divine Spirit,
Right now, we open our hearts to receive the pure love that never fails. We surrender to the Divine Will that knows us at depth. We trust the Divine processes that are always certain. We accept the gifts that always bless.
We focus our total desire upon knowing this experience of you in the deepest realms of our being. We submerge ourselves in the pure rapture this knowing brings. We meld into your perfect Essence. Our love for you consumes our very souls, and we move beyond time and space into the endless stream of all that is.
Here, all are made whole. Divine Spirit, we are grateful.
And so it is. And it is so. Amen.

Minister's Class | Spiral Dynamics
Learn how you can contribute to the continuing evolution of consciousness through a deep dive into the Spiral Dynamics model with Rev. Doris Hoskins. This class will be held on Mondays at 6:30 p.m., beginning on February 20. You may join the class at any time. It is shared on a love offering basis. It will be held in Friendship Hall and via Zoom. (For the Zoom link, contact the church office at unityontheavenue@gmail.com.)
Spiral Dynamics is an evolutionary model that documents various eras in human history and the forces that were at work in our society. “Spiral Dynamics is giving rise to a profound clarity of insight into the sweeping patterns of human psychologies, beliefs, and values that are, often unconsciously, guiding our choices and shaping our very identities,” writes Beck.
This class will discuss:
- The eight stages of social development.
- The values, economic, and political models described by each stage.
- How this knowledge allows us to appreciate and tolerate our differences, and live in oneness.
- Understanding the Spiral at work in our individual lives and in our relationships.

A Prayer Reminder From Our Chaplains
Prayer is one of the foundations of Unity. The chaplains at Unity on the Avenue Spiritual Center would like to remind you of the many ways in which you may get prayer support through Unity. In these changing and challenging times, prayer is a wonderful way to keep connected to our Divine Source, where we find our strength and direction to move to our best and highest good.
Soul-to-Soul Calls
Our chaplains contact our members monthly with prayers and are available to pray with you, as well. If you have a need for a prayer or would like to be contacted monthly, please notify Unity on the Avenue by phone (303-322-3901) or via email (unityontheavenue@gmail.com), and we will have a chaplain get back to you. Please let us know your contact information and how you would like to be reached (phone, text, or email).
Silent-Prayer Requests
You can submit silent prayer requests to the church by phone or email. Silent prayers are said by members of our group daily for a month and then sent to Silent Unity for prayers 24 hours a day for another month.
Silent Unity Prayers
For urgent prayers, Silent Unity Prayer Associates will pray anytime with anyone who calls 800-669-7729. Those prayers are also prayed for 30 days at Silent Unity.
This simple, free app is from Silent Unity. You can submit a prayer request quickly, which will then be prayed for 30 days. There is no signup to use the app—just type in the request. The app has a link to the Silent Unity prayer phone line, as well.

Inspiration
Passion is a feeling that tells you: this is the right thing to do. Nothing can stand in my way. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. This feeling is so good that it cannot be ignored. I'm going to follow my bliss and act upon this glorious sensation of joy. ~ Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
