About Our In-Person Services

From the month of June onwards we will be holding in-person services every Sunday at the Ahavas Achim Synagogue in Newburyport 53 1/2 Washington St, Newburyport, MA 01950 at 10 AM (ET). Each service will be a hybrid event with the option to attend over Zoom for those who are unable to gather in-person. Those who just want to Zoom in to services can continue to use the Zoom link located near the bottom of this page.

COVID-19 REGULATIONS - Because we will be gathering in person we all must abide by the regulations in effect for COVID-19. The MA DPH says that: "Effective July 30: The Department of Public Health has issued a new mask advisory in light of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated guidance. Fully vaccinated (as well as unvaccinated) individuals are advised to wear a mask or face covering when indoors (and not in your own home) if you have a weakened immune system, or if you are at increased risk for severe disease because of your age or an underlying medical condition, or if someone in your household has a weakened immune system, is at increased risk for severe disease, or is an unvaccinated adult." On Sundays we will observe these following rules:

  1. We recommend that both fully-vaccinated and unvaccinated, at risk people wear masks
  2. Social distancing of 6 feet encouraged
  3. Please ask if a hand shake or hug is welcome before touching

Parking can be found at the nearby Cushing Park and on-street parking is also permitted without restriction.
Attending In-Person Services Safely
If you are concerned about being in close physical proximity during in-person services, bring a green, yellow, or red badge or name-tag to wear that signifies your specific comfort level with contact using the system above.

Peaceful Passing and Openhearted Events and Discussions About Dealing With Death and Grief
Did you know there is a "death positive" movement?

There are a growing number of people who are making it easier to talk about death, dying, and grief and who are encouraging others to release fear through education, inspiration, and community.

That is one of the many reasons Unity created the booklet, Peaceful Passing, and an accompanying resource web page to offer spiritual guidance and support during the end of life. It's something we will all face.

Upcoming Events That Feature the Peaceful Passing Booklet

The Beautiful Dying Expo.
Unity will be participating in an upcoming online event called The Beautiful Dying Expo. We will be featuring three of our Outreach booklets: one for caregivers, another for grief, and Peaceful Passing, reaching a whole new audience!

Committee Information
As we make progress in rebuilding after the impacts of COVID-19, we are delegating the work to four separate committees. These include:

  1. The Mission & Vision Committee - For reformulating our church's mission & vision
  2. The New Property Committee - For finding a new permanent property
  3. The Minister Search Committee - For searching for a new minister
  4. The BOT Nominating Committee - For nominating and vetting new board members
  5. The By-Law Committee - For updating the by-laws

Sequential Committee Timeline

Rather than being attempted all at once, the goals of the The Mission & Vision, The New Property, and the The Minister Search Committees must be completed in progressive stages since each hinges on the prior's successful achievement. Below is the outline of the timeline by which these goals must be completed:

  1. Create Mission and Vision statements (community core values) Martha Creek advisor
  2. Property search - a building to support and serve our core values (value within our resource budget)
  3. Minister search - a minister aligned with our core values (financial resources monitored closely)

The objectives of our other two committees, Bylaws Revisal and BOT Nominating, may be carried out independently of this plan. The objective for the former is as follows:

  • To review and revise the bylaws, then present them at a Community Meeting for approval
