Updates for April 29, 2020
UTSA is responding to the COVID-19 outbreak with a commitment to supporting the safety of the university community while enabling the academic progress of students. Here is your digest of university news and tips.
When we say “Roadrunner Strong,” we are always proud of how committed ’Runners are to supporting each other. Today millions of people across the world will wear denim with a purpose, and the PEACE Center at UTSA is hosting Denim Day on social media to virtually support survivors of—and educate the community about all forms of—sexual violence. Wear denim with a purpose to help raise awareness during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
HOT THIS WEEK: UTSA’s expert faculty and staff are a brain trust of knowledge and are ready to share their insights and recommendations. Our Trainings, Webinars and Town Halls page is where we bring them together—for you to watch livestreams and view or rewatch recorded streams.
  • Beating COVID-19: How Close Are We?: The next town hall in the Community Conversations series takes a look at efforts to end the coronavirus pandemic. Many of our nation’s top scientific minds are focused on developing solutions to combat COVID-19, including several UTSA faculty who are actively working to develop predictive models, drug therapies and vaccines. A Q&A session with panel experts will be included. Wednesday, April 29, noon.

  • Research from Home with UTSA Libraries: Need help with papers and projects? Taking summer classes and wondering how to access the library? Even though the buildings are closed, the UTSA Libraries are here to help. Tune in to this town hall for tips on using online resources and mastering remote learning. Thursday, April 30, 2 p.m.
MAKE YOUR ESCAPE: Need a break from the real world? Put your skills to the test in this Virtual Xscape Roomz special event, brought to you by Roadrunner Productions. Join any time during the active dates using the event key. Once you’ve entered, (1) read the instructions in full for the optimum experience, (2) attempt the virtual escape room only once, since multiple attempts will impact your time and score, and (3) refrain from sharing answers to make the experience fun and unique for everyone. Active dates are May 1–3. Use event key 2b3jP1x4 (case-sensitive).

NETWORK & BUILD SKILLS: Join in the inaugural Leadership and Career Summit for skills building and networking with experts. Open to all UTSA students.

  • Leadership and Career Summit: Networking with expert presenters, UTSA alumni and industry partners. A variety of breakout sessions are available, including Marketable Leadership Skills Workshops. Friday, May 1, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (RSVP via Handshake by Thursday, April 30 at noon to attend.)

  • Planning a Project/Event: Another don’t-miss Marketable Leadership Skills Workshops event. It’s a highly interactive session that allows you and other participants to collaborate on a mini project. There will be twists and turns as you navigate the seven-step guide, all culminating with participants highlighting their plan’s strengths and improvement areas. Monday, May 4, noon.
CREATE YOUR ACADEMIC SUCCESS: The Tomás Rivera Center’s Academic Success Coaching team has a series of videos with helpful tips for improving communication skills, staying active during quarantine, and more—including helping you prepare for finals. Use the links, below, and ASC’s YouTube channel to watch the series. You can also find virtual coaching sessions and resources to support you on the Academic Success Coaching page.
FINANCIAL AID FOR SUMMER: Need help paying for classes this summer? Financial aid is available. Be sure to fill out a summer aid application and a 2019–2020 FASFA by June 30 via ASAP. Contact a One Stop Enrollment counselor if you need any assistance.

SPEAK WITH ONE STOP: You can now reach a One Stop Enrollment counselor by phone at 210-458-8000 or toll-free at 800-669-0919 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays). And as always, you can contact a counselor via the chat feature, email and video appointment.
