A STEP aHEAD REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!
The Chicago Blackhawks, AHAI, Athletico Physical Therapy and NorthShore University HealthSystem are proud to announce the 7th year of our "A Step aHead" program!
 
The goal of our program is to educate the youth hockey community on concussion awareness, prevention and treatment as well as to provide FREE baseline neurocognitive testing to AHAI members.

  • A Step aHead testing is available for AHAI members from Pee Wee to Midget/High School (ages 11-18).
  • Additional information is available on the AHAI, AHAIeNews and Athletico Physical Therapy websites.
  • Registration is NOW OPEN; testing is available now through November 30, 2017.
  • This year's program will also offer new educational opportunities for both Moms and Dads, Coaches and Players. Stay tuned for additional information.

CHICAGO TO HOST 2018 DISABLED HOCKEY FESTIVAL!
By Michael Svac, USAH Central District Rep ~ The USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Festival is coming to Chicago in April of 2018! Athletes from the United States and Canada will be competing at all ages and skill levels in six (6) Disabled Hockey disciplines: Sled Hockey, Special Hockey, Blind Hockey, Warrior Hockey, Standing/Amputee Hockey and Deaf/Hard of Hearing Hockey.

The Disabled Festival will be hosted at the Leaf Center in West Dundee over two weekends, and attendance is expected to bring over 1000 players to the Chicago area for this exciting annual event. All Disabled Hockey disciplines, except Sled, will be held April 5-8, 2018. The Sled Hockey competition will be held the following week, April 12-15, 2018.
NEW RULES FOR THE 2017-2018 SEASON YOU NEED TO KNOW
NEW FOR THE 2017-18 SEASON:  Coaches will not be able to be added to a Youth/Girls/HS Roster until the required Age-Specific Coaching Module has been completed. Coaches will not be allowed to participate with their teams until this requirement is met and processed through the USAH Registry. It can take a few days for USAH to process the information and the member will be able to be added to the team roster. We encourage you to plan accordingly.

NEW FOR THE 2017/18 SEASON: Coaches and Managers will not be able to be added to a Youth/Girls/HS Roster until their SafeSport training has been completed. USA Hockey has an extensive SafeSport program that provides resources to ensure the safety of all involved in the game both on and off the ice. READ FULL RULE>>

NEW FOR THE 2017-18 SEASON: The Consent to Treat form is no longer a required form. Managers will no longer have each team participant complete a Consent to Treat form.

2017 REGISTRAR TRAINING SESSIONS
TIER II SUBSTITUTE CHOICE PROCESS
Dates are set for the Registrar Training Sessions for the 2017-18 Season. These training sessions are intended for those individuals that are the Registrars for their respective AHAI Affiliate Organizations. It is mandatory that Registrars attend  one  of the sessions. Other administrative members of your organization are welcome to attend. All sessions, with the exception of Bloomington, will begin at 7 PM, and will last less than 2 hours. All sessions will provide the same information. Registrars do not need to register to attend a session. The Tier ll Substitute Choice Application Process, Squirt through 16U/18U will begin on July 20, 2017. All applications will be submitted online. The Tier ll Committee will  ONLY  have (3) three appeal hearings this year for those denied a substitute choice.  The dates for the appeals are August 10, August 30 and September 7, 2017 . Appeal hearings will be held at 6:30pm on the aforementioned dates at the North Shore Ice Arena. If denied please email Gregg Chudacoff, AHAI Tier II Chairman, at  [email protected]  with your preferred appeal hearing date (listed above). Deadline for applying for a substitute choice will be September 15, 2017.

NHL, USA HOCKEY & USHL ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP
With the 2017 NHL Draft as a backdrop, three of the most significant organizations on the hockey landscape in the United States announced a multi-year partnership geared toward maximizing developmental and business opportunities throughout the country.  Bill Daly, deputy commissioner of the NHL, joined senior leadership from USA Hockey and the United States Hockey League in announcing a long-term agreement that will provide financial support and other resources in furthering development of players, coaches and officials participating in the nation's top level of junior hockey - a primary springboard to NCAA Division I and professional ice hockey. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event to support the Chicagoland Hornets sled hockey team, a hockey team comprised of physically disabled players ages 5 and older. The Blackhawks Warriors Hockey team, sponsored in part by the Chicago Blackhawks, is comprised of our veteran soldiers who have been injured in combat. We encourage everyone to support the Blackhawks Warriors by coming out to their games and events and cheering them on to victory or by contributing in some way so that these heroes may participate in the game we all love.
