The University of Maryland hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for Stanley R. Zupnik Hall, an interdisciplinary engineering building that will play an integral role in the A. James Clark School of Engineering’s efforts to attract and develop leaders who help solve some of the world’s most pressing issues and impact society for the public good.

The state-of-the-art building will feature spaces for students, faculty, and institutional partners to collaborate, with specialized labs for connected autonomous vehicles and intelligent infrastructure, as well as virtual, interdisciplinary research and instructional labs, a seminar classroom, and conference and meeting space.
Research and Entrepreneurship at Work
MissionGO, which has been pioneering a wide range of UAS applications, announced that it has signed a three-year partnership with Southern California Edison, under which it will provide UAS-based inspection services. Several company professionals were previously involved with the UMD UAS Test Site—now known as the UMD UAS Research and Operations Center—where they helped trailblaze UAS capabilities.

InventWood®, founded by Rabin Distinguished Professor Liangbing Hu, was recently announced as a recipient of a $20M SCALEUP award from the US Department of Energy’s innovation agency, Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E). With this award, UMD has received over $100M in ARPA-E funding (for 37 awards) since its inception in 2009, making it one of the top three universities in the country in ARPA-E funding and awards received.

The A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland welcomes 11 exceptional young engineers from across the state of Maryland as its newest class of A. James Clark Scholars. The students selected for this highly distinguished program represent some of the most promising scholars among Maryland Engineering's first-year class.
