Congratulations to undergraduate researchers,  Taylor Cottle (Beckman Scholars Program)  and Harrison Schmachtenberger (SURE) , for being recognized by the  Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program.

Taylor, (Pictured right), a recipient of the Goldwater Scholarship is a Chemistry & Biochemistry Major working in Dr. Provost's lab.

Harrison (Pictured below), a  Goldwater  Honorable Mention is a Mechanical Engineering   major conducting research in the lab of Dr. Imane Khalil.

Doing Research this Summer?  
Register as a Research Scholar!
All USD students engaged in undergraduate research/scholarship activities and creative works are 
required to register as a Research Scholar 
regardless of funding source or formal program affiliation. 

Research Scholars include: 
  • Beckman Scholars
  • McNair Scholars
  • NSF REU Scholars
  • PURE Scholars
  • SURE Scholars
  • Students who have received a scholarship for summer research
  • Students who are conducting research on a faculty member's grant
  • Students who are dong an independent project with a faculty advisor/volunteering
  • Other visiting researchers (high school, international, etc.) 
Responsibilities and Benefits
  • Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR) Online Training/Other research ethics training as needed
  • 50% discount on on-campus housing during the summer (USD students only; see housing section below)
  • Participation in professional development workshops
  • Invitations to special networking events with other researchers
