Marion B. Sewer Distinguished Scholarship for Undergraduates

Application deadline is May 16.

The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Marion B. Sewer Distinguished Scholarship for Undergraduates offers financial support to students who demonstrate an interest in biochemistry and/or molecular biology and who enhance the diversity of science.
 
Eligible students are those whose social, educational or economic background adds to the diversity of the biomedical workforce or who show a commitment to increasing educational access for underrepresented students.
 
The scholarship provides $2,000 toward tuition costs for one academic year, and scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for scholarships in subsequent academic years. The application deadline is May 16.

All USD students engaged in undergraduate research/scholarship activities and creative works are 
required to register as a Research Scholar 
regardless of funding source or formal program affiliation. 

Research Scholars include: 
  • Beckman Scholars
  • McNair Scholars
  • NSF REU Scholars
  • PURE Scholars
  • SURE Scholars
  • Students who have received a scholarship for summer research
  • Students who are conducting research on a faculty member's grant
  • Students who are dong an independent project with a faculty advisor/volunteering
  • Other visiting researchers (high school, international, etc.) 
Responsibilities and Benefits
  • Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR) Online Training/Other research ethics training as needed
  • 50% discount on on-campus housing during the summer (USD students only; see housing section on our website for more details)
  • Participation in professional development workshops
  • Invitations to special networking events with other researchers
