Whoooo's that Bird?

Ask Merlin

Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab can help you solve the mystery. This free app is amazingly easy to use. You can simply push record and the Merlin app listens for birds right in your area. When it hears and identifies a bird sound, a photograph pops up to show you the bird(s). You can stop the recording, click on the photograph, and see a plethora of more photos and interesting facts about the bird.

Merlin can also help you identify birds with a photograph. Plus Merlin will give you expert ID tips to help you build your bird spotting skills and Merlin can keep track of your sightings in your personal bird “Life List.” This simple app is powered by eBird, the world’s largest database of bird sightings, sounds, and photos.

"Whether you want to become a seasoned birder or just know the birds that visit your yard, this app is perfect. It has opened up a whole new world to me." Meg Harper, LCLT staff.

Intriguing Insects at Kuhlanapo

Observations and photographs by David Woodward

David Woodward, a retired entomologist and awesome Land Trust volunteer continues to monitor not just birds at Kuhlanapo Preserve but also insects. The report highlights the Odonatas (Dragonflies and Damselfies) and other insects observed from June through November 2025. Dave was able to add a Paddle Tailed Darner. It is the fourth darner and brings the species total to 18 at Kuhlanapo Preserve. Click here to read his full report.
