Mountain Retreats

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens, GA and the Greenville, SC Unitarian Universalist Fellowship held a joint retreat. This was part of the Greenville congregation's 75th anniversary celebration.

The Sunday morning service (photo) was a message of interconnections among people and all beings on our earth. Participants used yarn, creating their interconnected web.

The Mountain Nominating Committee

Message from Teresa Youngblood, Chair

Are you the leader we're looking for?

Do you care deeply about the present and future of The Mountain?

Have you been growing your leadership skills in your community?

Are you ready to commit to meaningful work alongside dedicated people for the next three years?

If so, the Nominating Committee would love to talk with you. Our recruitment season is now open, and we’re seeking governance leaders to help shape the future of The Mountain.

To start a conversation, please email Adelaide or fill out the application on The Mountain website governance page.

This is good work, friends—and we’re grateful to be doing it together with you.

Chet Pletzky is one of those people

who likes to be part of making things happen.

In addition to supporting the Capital Campaign which is transforming The Mountain for programming opportunities, Chet made a contribution for a much-needed new website.

As a retired archivist, Chet scanned and organized hundreds of documents (newsletters, annual reports, etc.) which are accessible on the website: About/Media Resources.

Enjoy this resource as we continue adding to this work in process - our recorded history since 1979!

Chet is pictured here with the golf cart which he donated to The Mountain. It is so helpful to have another small vehicle to take care of many tasks throughout our campus.

Also, Chet made a contribution for a webcam which is now installed on the peak of the lodge, and will soon be connected to the website.

We are so grateful for Chet's many tangible contributions, in addition to his ongoing encouragement, supporting the work we are doing making a positive difference in our world. Thank you Chet!

Southface Good Use Grant

The Mountain received these grants, totalling $188,000 in 2022 and 2024. Several projects are now complete, increasing our energy efficiency.

Photos show the additional transformer on Ring Road, allowing us to eliminate gas applicances and use electric; and equipment for mini-splits (removing baseboard heaters) in guest housing.

These recent projects, with previous grant-supported projects are providing more comfortable guest housing and meeting spaces. We look forward to you enjoying these during your next visit.

Message from

The Mountain Board

The Board met for our quarterly in-person meeting in August. We discussed finances, new projects, the capital campaign, and how we can support The Mountain and its staff.

We celebrated the end of a successful MountainCamp session and saw recent physical improvements to the Mountain campus.

We defined some key aspects of the search for our next permanent executive director. As always we are happy to connect with Mountain staff and guests.
