Unlock Your Self-Advocacy Superpower

June 2025 Newsletter

Summer...is...on. And these days, summer means movies about superheroes who use their superpowers to combat evil or help people.

What about you? Do you have any superpowers? The answer is "yes." You have the superpower of self-advocacy, you just might not know it.

Self-advocacy is when you use your voice to let others know what’s important to you. When you self-advocate, you influence decisions that will affect your life instead of having other people make decisions without your input.

Anyone can be a self-advocate, but if you've never advocated for yourself, how do you unlock this superpower?

To get started, see our 10 Self-Advocacy Tips to learn how you can be an effective self-advocate. One of the tips is to understand your rights, and our website has many resources to help with this, covering topics related to education, employment, housing, voting, and more.

Also, if you like videos, our How to Be Your Own Best Advocate has short videos and plain language resources that can help get you on your way to effective self-advocacy.

This summer, unlock your self-advocacy superpower so you can express your needs and have your voice heard!
