NIH 2019 Short Course in Genomics
Applications Opening Soon!

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is offering its annual NHGRI Short Course in Genomics from July 29 - August 1, 2019 on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland. The course offers middle school, high school, community college and Tribal College faculty the opportunity to hear lectures and receive teaching resources from leading NHGRI and NIH researchers, clinicians, and staff, and to discuss ways to incorporate genomics content into their classrooms.

Students can reach for the stars with the Genes in Space challenge! Students (grades 7-12) can work in groups or individually to design an original DNA experiment that addresses real-life challenges of space exploration. The winning experiment will be conducted by International Space Station astronauts. Educational resources for teachers and students are also available for the classroom. Submission deadline is April 19, 2019.
"Research Brings Hope to People Living with a Rare Disease"

Of the nearly 7,000 rare diseases, only a few hundred have any treatment. Bring awareness of rare diseases into your classroom with resources from the NIH. Live webcasts, a Twitter chat, patient profiles, a database on rare diseases and more!

Rare Disease Day takes place on the last day of February each year. The main objective of the day is to raise awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients' lives.

This year's global theme is "bridging health and social care."
