Special Human Genome Project Issue: 15 Tools for Teaching The Human Genome Project
One of the most popular tools on the Genome: Unlocking Life's Code website is the
"Timeline of the Human Genome Project."

Each month more teachers visit/use the timeline than in the previous month, and the extraordinary interest in the resource has spawned a supplemental resources timeline featuring 15 additional tools for teaching the Human Genome Project.

Our 15 tools list ranges from the discovery of the DNA molecule and the researchers involved, to how to sequence a genome, a list of animal genomes sequenced, the poetry of the Human Genome Project, and more.

15 Genomic Advances After the Human Genome Project

Major advances in genomics have happened since the completion of the Human Genome Project (HGP) in fields like genome editing, direct-to-consumer testing, noninvasive prenatal testing, cancer genomics, and ancestry.

Get up-to-date on these 15 areas. Expand your curriculum. Explore new topics. All in this new interactive that looks at advances powered by genomic research since the HGP was completed in 2003.

Prepared and vetted by scientists and an illustrator at the National Human Genome Research Institute, the Human Genome Project (HGP) Timeline contains major milestones in genomics from 1865 to 2003. Special emphasis on 1990 - 2003 when the HGP was underway.

Concise and beautifully illustrated. Print it, share it as a file, or post it in your online student resources area.

Our monthly search for the best free teaching resources for biology teachers has chosen a winner for June 2018: The National Human Genome Research Institute's (NHGRI) online image gallery. Copyright-free, researcher-vetted, genetic and genomic images for lesson plans, slides, handouts, etc.

There are more than 50 high-quality images and illustrations covering a wide range of topics in the NHGRI online image gallery. Use them as they are, clip out just a part of one (like we did for our icon here), fade them out as slide or poster backgrounds. An easy way to perk up your presentations, handouts, or websites for the next school year.

All image gallery files are downloadable as high resolution files. Each image contains a credit line acknowledging the artists.
