First Farmers and the Origins of Domestication:
A Matching Game
Just in time for Thanksgiving,  "First Farmers and the Origins of Domestication" is a new, free online matching game about domestication. One of five interactive learning activities within the larger interactive learning tool "In & Beyond Africa" (IABA), this eLearning activity engages  participants with colorful graphics and opportunities to compete with themselves or others.

November 2015 Resource of the Month
Genetic and Rare Diseases (GARD) Information Center

This month's Internet search for the best free teaching resources for biology teachers has arrived at a winner: the online website for the Genetic and Rare Diseases (GARD) Information Center. GARD offers a wealth of readily accessible online information about genetic and rare diseases sourced from NIH resources, medical texts, scientific journals, disease advocacy sites, and medical databases.

The Surgeon General's Family Health History Tool

In 2004, the Surgeon General designated Thanksgiving as "National Family History Day" and created a free online tool to encourage people to collect and record family health history.  "My Family Health Portrait" is a simple program that runs on any computer connected to the Web, using any Internet browser.

More classroom-ready resources for explaining how family health history can help uncover genetic heritage, risks, and guide people toward informed lifestyle choices.

Is there a free online learning resource that you would like us to consider in our monthly "Resource of the Month?" competition?

We welcome at-large nominations of the best biology-based learning tools you use in your classroom, or find valuable to you personally. Nominations should be available via the Internet free of charge, useful to large numbers of biology teachers, and in general a knockout.
