Five New Educational Videos Teach The Elements of Genomics
Just out and free: Five beautifully presented and detailed educational videos on genomics featuring leading voices such as President Bill Clinton, James Watson, Francis Collins, and Maynard Olson.

All stream effortlessly on your computer, tablet, or phone.

  1. Lessons from the Human Genome Project highlights significant lessons learned from the Human Genome Project.

  2. The Poetry of the Human Genome combines video comments of well-known scientists and politicians to describe inspiring and beautiful aspects of the human genome.

  3. The Human Genome Project: Who Do You Think We Are? describes the efforts of The DNA Discussion Project, a project that aims to encourage a greater understanding of genomics, the social construct of race, and the perception of ethnicity through the experience of taking DNA tests to decipher one's ancestral origins.

  4. Zarko's Story: Genomic Medicine in Action explores the experience of a patient with a previously undiagnosed disease. Using genome sequencing tools, doctors discover a mutation that helps identify a drug treatment.

  5. The Genome + Environment = Dance! illustrates the interplay of genomics and the environment in influencing our health and well-being.
October 2018 Resource Of The Month
Updated Teaching Resources From The Personal Genetics Education Project

Our monthly internet search for the best free teaching resources for biology teachers has chosen the Harvard Medical School Personal Genetics Education Project's genetics teaching web resources - newly updated and free to download.

Contents include robust slideshows, quizzes, reading lists, lesson plans, supplements, and recent developments.

3D printing technology is advancing at a rapid pace, but it is difficult to find or create 3D-printable models that are scientifically accurate or applicable to a biology lesson.

The NIH 3D Print Exchange provides models in formats that are readily compatible with 3D printers, and offers a unique set of tools to create 3D-printable models related to biomedical science. Technique tutorials, and more than 6,000 researcher-created downloadable (and printable) 3D models are available.

Amaze your class as one of these models emerges from your 3D printer. Excite students who are interested in 3D printing. You will want to share this one with your colleagues.

Skipping its way across North America, the Genome: Unlocking Life's Code exhibition is now open at the Orange County Regional History Center in Orlando, Florida through January 6, 2019.

Take a friend, take your family, or take your science class. Easily worth the trip, and the content fits snugly into most science curriculums.
