Strawberries contain a lot of DNA and one of the best ways to actually see that DNA with your own eyes is to perform a DNA extraction experiment. National DNA Day was first celebrated in 2003 following the announcement of the completion of the first draft of the Human Genome Project (HGP). The HGP generated the first human genome sequence and it took 10 years! Today, sequencing the human genome is slightly less challenging and the NHGRI has created a short video demonstrating genome sequencing in just seven steps.
