Application Open for NHGRI's Virtual Short Course in Genomics

Middle school, high school, community college and tribal college educators teaching science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses are encouraged to apply to NHGRI’s annual Short Course in Genomics. The course will be held from August 7-9, 2023. The course will be virtual and delivered via Zoom. Digital materials will be provided in advance. The course offers educators the opportunity to hear lectures and receive teaching resources from leading NHGRI and NIH researchers, clinicians, and staff, and to discuss ways to incorporate genomics content into their classrooms. Applications are due by April 3, 2023.

Save-the-Date: National DNA Day Symposium on April 25

National DNA Day is an annual, global celebration of the discovery of the DNA double helix structure. This year is extra special! People across the world on Tuesday, April 25 will commemorate the 20th anniversaries of the Human Genome Project’s completion and DNA Day, and the 70th anniversary of the discovery of the DNA double helix. Join the National Human Genome Research Institute at the National DNA Day Symposium on DNA Day (Tuesday, April 25) starting at 9 a.m. The symposium will be offered virtually and registration is required. Register now for this great DNA Day celebration!

Conversations about the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of Genetics for Educators

"Exploring Difference in the Biology Classroom: Bringing Together Educators and Researchers for Conversations About the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) of Genetics" is a collaboration between the Personal Genetics Education Project (pgEd) and the Center for ELSI Resources and Analysis (CERA) to present the latest ELSI research as a resource for educators to use in the classroom. Each of the four events in this ELSI conversations series have one or more ELSI researchers presenting new material followed by a discussion and a Q&A session.
