Greetings!

If dyslexia has touched your life or someone you love, you probably remember a moment when getting the right support made a difference. Maybe it was finally understanding why reading had always been so difficult, finding information that helped you advocate for your child at school, or watching your child begin to believe in themselves once they received instruction that worked for them.

This Dyslexia Awareness Month, we’re asking you to help make more of those moments possible. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by October 31, so IDA Ontario can continue providing people with dyslexia and their families with trusted information, resources, and support, while advocating for an education system that better meets their needs.

MAKE A GIFT TODAY

Over the past few years, Ontario has made meaningful progress. Our province has changed its literacy curriculum, introduced early reading screening, and moved toward evidence-based structured literacy instruction. These are changes that we have all spent years working toward. But progress only matters if it reaches the people who need it.

A new curriculum doesn’t necessarily help a parent who is struggling to understand what support their child should be receiving at school. Early screening doesn’t address the needs of an older student who has already spent years struggling to read. And changes within the education system don’t eliminate the need for people with dyslexia and their families to have somewhere they can turn for reliable information, resources and guidance. Educators need the knowledge and resources to translate new approaches into meaningful change in their classrooms.

That’s where IDA Ontario comes in.

We help families and people with dyslexia understand and navigate a changing education system, provide trusted, evidence-based information and resources, and continue advocating so that the progress we’ve made reaches more students in more classrooms.

IDA Ontario remains primarily volunteer-driven, supported by just two part-time staff members, and the need for our work continues to outpace our capacity.

Your gift today will help ensure that you, your family, and others in our community have somewhere to turn for trusted information, support, and advocacy when you need it.

HELP US REACH $10,000 BY OCTOBER 31

We know what a difference it can make to have the right support when you need it. With your help, we can continue being there for each other and for the families who will need us next.

Until Everyone Can Read.

With gratitude,

Live Webinar - October 28

Join us for a free webinar, Making the Most of the Mighty Mini-Whiteboard with AJ Pettway.

Mini-whiteboards are an incredibly powerful classroom technology no matter the subject or grade. Every student thinks and participates, and the teacher gains quick, class-wide insights needed to be responsive. But, for some, mini-whiteboards seem a little fussy. In this session, we’ll break down some key challenges and examine how to reduce the friction and boost the benefits of mini-whiteboards, making their use efficient, manageable, and instructionally powerful.
