Since 1950, the YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula has been focused on the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women. When they closed their doors in 2005, they continued their work by investing the proceeds of the YWCA building in Palo Alto into a donor advised fund. In the years since, they have granted over $3M to 59 organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area committed to their mission.
"We've been able to give grants in primarily the same area that the YWCA serviced. Think about the ramifications of all these organizations that have gotten grants [from us] and you can see how expandable the number of people impacted by the Y is. That's the value of a donor advised fund - you can work with speed. If it's important enough you can get it done quickly."
The video linked below tells this story of how the YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula Donor Advised Fund came to be, driven by an extraordinary local nonprofit leader and a group of courageous women fearless in their efforts to improve our community.
This innovative fund is an example of philanthropy at its best and we at PVF are proud and grateful to work together.
