Abbi Jacobson ’06 (General Fine Arts BFA) and Anne Umland, MoMA’s Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller Senior Curator of Painting and Sculpture, explore Surrealism’s creative attraction for women artists and its revolutionary potential then and now. Watch the recording
Opportunity of a Lifetime

Jessica Schimpf ’11 (Interdisciplinary Sculpture BFA) can be seen in Lifetime’s newest holiday film “Dear Christmas” starring Melissa Joan Hart and Jason Priestley. Much of the movie was shot in Jessica’s studio Mantra Glass Art, and she made all of the glass work seen in the movie. Read more
New Year New Plan

This year, the annual New Year’s Eve “First Night North” celebration in Vermont will be broadcast rather than live. This show features musicians, Broadway stars, and circus performances including a circus act by Troy Wunderle ’95 (Visual Communication Design BFA) who has been performing for the past 24 years. Alumni-Owned Business Spotlight— Kelly Roman Art
Kelly Roman ’18 (Illustration BFA)

Kelly resides in rural Maryland surrounded by nature, and her growing collection of antiques, which both inspire her artwork. She sells her handmade patches, prints, stickers, and original art through her Etsy shop.

Alumni-Owned Business Spotlight— Shiloh Pottery
Ken Hankins ’66 (Art Education BFA)

Ken and his family bought an abandoned summer camp in Carroll County the year he graduated from MICA. He and his wife have since turned the camp into a business, doing what they both enjoy the most, making pots, building kilns and wheels, and of course teaching pottery classes. The COVID-19 Pandemic has forced them to cancel in-person classes, but they have adapted and created virtual shopping appointments and are currently building an outdoor showroom to allow for socially distant shopping.
